The Art of Food – Local Flavors. Inspiring People. A Stronger Community.

Food has a remarkable way of bringing people together. It connects us to family, culture, tradition and place. It tells a story of where we come from and often, where we are going.
In this special feature, we are proud to introduce three talented local artisans whose passion for food is rooted in heritage, creativity and a deep love for sharing their craft with others.
Angie Schenone, Leslie Navarro-Tafolla and Candice Van Devender each bring something unique to the table, delicate Peruvian alfajores, handcrafted artisan breads and fermented Korean green plums. Their stories are different, but they share a common thread, a love of creating food that nourishes, delights and connects people.
What makes their stories even more special is that you can meet them in person, sample their creations and bring a little piece of their culinary artistry home with you at the local Santa Clarita Valley Farmers Markets. These markets are more than places to shop; they are community gatherings where neighbors support local growers, bakers and food creators, and where traditions from around the world are celebrated right here in our own backyard.
For years, the Santa Clarita Valley Farmers Markets have been a cornerstone of our community, thanks to the vision, energy and dedication of Larry McClements. As the founder and operator of the markets, Larry has created a space where local farmers and food artisans can share their products, stories and passions with the community. Many of you know Larry from his popular recipe column in élite Magazine, where he continues to inspire us with his seasonal favorites. We are thrilled that Larry will be sharing another delicious recipe in our November/December issue, just in time for the holidays.
You will meet Angie, Leslie and Candice and learn more about how their love of food has shaped their lives. Their stories remind us that food is truly an art form, one that is crafted with patience, creativity and heart.
