The City of Santa Clarita Cowboy Festival
These days, we take for granted the luxuries in our lives. We light candles to create ambiance and fill our home with a fresh scent. We can go to our favorite local store to purchase clothes in any variety of colors or patterns. But have you ever thought about how these things were done before the time of modern conveniences? Now is your chance to travel back in time at the Santa Clarita Cowboy Festival and try your hand at forgotten arts such as yarn spinning and candle making.
These are just a couple of the unique activities you can experience at this year’s festival taking place the weekend of April 20 and 21, at William S. Hart Park in Old Town Newhall. New this year, is Gilchrist Farm’s Pioneer Corner. This is where you can feel the wool fibers dance in your hands as it is spun into yarn, dip candles, churn butter and see what masterpiece you can create through woodburning. These opportunities will join longtime Cowboy Festival favorites such as mechanical bull riding, archery, axe throwing, lassoing, line dancing and much more. If you want to enhance your cowboy wardrobe, stroll through the western-style vendors row where you can browse vintage boots, hats, leather goods and jewelry. All these opportunities will provide an authentic glimpse into what day to day life was, back when Santa Clarita was in the prime of its cowboy days.
You will no doubt work up an appetite as you traverse through the Wild West. Not to worry, the Cowboy Festival offers plenty of mouthwatering options to fill you up. Stop by one of the many food trucks offering authentic barbecue and other delectable dishes. Remember, no trip to the Cowboy Festival is complete without a steaming serving of the Cowboy Peach Cobbler. This local favorite brings the crowds back year after year.
Of course, no Cowboy Festival would be complete without live performances from a wide-range of country acts. There will be over 15 performers taking to three different stages with a unique blend of cowboy, country, folk and bluegrass music that will have you tapping your toes and dancing along. Festival favorites like Dave Stamey, Sarah Winchester, Kristyn Harris and Sourdough Slim will entertain crowds with a wide-range of styles from county, to yodeling, to vaudeville.
Take your Cowboy Festival experience to the next level by buying VIP tickets. General admission to the Festival is FREE, but for $100 you get an exclusive experience over the two days of the Festival which includes access to the Cantina where you can enjoy delicious barbecue, cocktails, beer, snacks, a catered lunch and the opportunity to mingle with festival performers. You will also get VIP seats at the MANE stage and a Festival t-shirt.
Make sure you mark your calendars to enjoy everything cowboy at the Santa Clarita Cowboy Festival April 20 and 21. For more information and VIP tickets please visit CowboyFestival.org. We will see you at Hart Park!
