The Future of Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital – Kevin Klockenga
Kevin Klockenga has spent much of his life inside a hospital, but not for the reasons you’d think. From the start, Kevin sought the excitement that comes with the dynamic world of healthcare as well as the satisfaction that accompanies helping others, and it’s his passion for both that landed him in the position of CEO of Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital.
Kevin initially planned to become a physician in his college days, having studied pre-med before he transitioned to hospital administration thanks to conversations he had with his uncle, who had experience in hospital admin.
Prior to Henry Mayo, Kevin worked at many other hospitals and facilities, and oversaw several positive changes and transitions everywhere he went. For him, teamwork is what it is all about – and making a difference for every hospital, staff, and patient.
“It’s about us, and what we want the next chapter of Henry Mayo to be,” says Kevin. “The staff, physicians, the board – we’ll all be working together to develop a collective vision for the future of the hospital.”
So what does all of this mean for Henry Mayo? It means that Kevin and the hospital’s dedicated team of physicians, nurses, and staff will continue to grow and serve the Santa Clarita community. The needs of the SCV population will be heard and addressed, and that’s part of Kevin’s larger goal of generating positive changes throughout the valley as a direct result of his new role as CEO.
For him, it’s about collaboration and fostering a sense of togetherness. After all, that’s what drew him to our community in the first place. The shared feeling of connectedness is what makes Santa Clarita Valley residents unique, and he hopes to build upon that same phenomenon within the campus of Henry Mayo.
Kevin himself is a bit of a workaholic, mainly because he loves what he does. He places a heavy emphasis on maintaining his own health, specifically through routine exercise, which he firmly believes plays into overall wellness for everyone.
Moving forward, Kevin and the Henry Mayo staff will work hand in hand to support the Santa Clarita Valley day in and day out. Kevin plans to utilize his role as CEO as an opportunity to get more involved in our community both professionally and personally.
“At this point in my career, I’m looking to make an impact on the hospital and to help shape a culture that outlives my time here,” he says.
Nothing is more important than ensuring the highest quality of care and experience for both patients and staff alike, and that’s the motto that Kevin is operating on. Having taken over as CEO in March of 2023, Kevin is using the first 90 days of his new role as an opportunity to listen, observe and learn so, together with the team, he can help move the hospital to the next level of service to the community.
“I want Henry Mayo to be the best place for patients to receive care, for physicians to practice, and for employees to work,” he says. “The future is bright for Henry Mayo, and I’m excited to be a part of it.”
