The Junkluggers Saving the World, One Lug at a Time
Couples who lug junk together, stay together – at least, that’s what Amy and Tony Spahr say. The two of them own and operate Junkluggers, a local, eco-friendly furniture and junk removal company that services our valley as well as the San Fernando Valley and Burbank area.
Amy and Tony have always been entrepreneurial buffs. In between traveling, hiking, and volunteering over the years, they’ve started several small businesses together, and they’ve gradually learned the lessons that accompany the business-duo lifestyle.
“It hasn’t been easy, but we’ve demonstrated consistent growth and exceeded our targets,” Amy says. “As we grow, we have more opportunities to develop our employees and help them grow alongside us.”
One important aspect of Junkluggers is the community involvement; many of the items they lug away are repurposed or donated back to the community for reusing. Items that can’t be donated are given to residents who can refurbish them and keep the eco-friendly cycle going.
Doing business together has afforded the Spahrs a myriad of new experiences, opportunities, and adventures – Junkuggers alone has taught them how to dissect a hot tub, cut up a shed, and move pianos. Of course, there’s also their two adult children who are there to help guide them through the world of social media and keeping the community engaged online.
“We want people to know that we’re members of this community, and we’re dedicated to providing quality service and supporting local non-profits in the process,” says Amy. “Our mission is to reduce waste through donation, recycling, and re-use.”
Another significant outcome of Amy and Tony’s entrepreneurial endeavors has been the relationships they’ve formed with the community. Through their work, they’ve built an amazing network of donation centers, non-profits, and residents who are there to perpetuate the good work being done by Junkluggers.
“As we come up on the first anniversary of Junkluggers’ start here in Santa Clarita, we’re working to grow the number of ways that we can give back to the community,” says Amy.
