The Show Goes On At The MAIN
As you plan your next date night with your significant other or arrange for a night out on the town, consider the arts and entertainment opportunities you can find right here in Santa Clarita. Grab some take-out and cozy up on a bench at the Bridgeport Marketplace for a great view of the Birds of Valencia sculpture. Another option is “Passing Through,” the vibrant art gallery by Laura Hunt at the Jo Anne Darcy Library with some friends. If live events are more your speed, consider taking a stroll down Main Street in Old Town Newhall to the City of Santa Clarita’s multi-use arts center, The MAIN. The MAIN provides a venue for artistic expression, entertaining programming and celebrates the unique character of Santa Clarita.
For much of 2020, The MAIN closed its physical doors as a COVID-19 precaution and expanded its presence online. Whether quarantining, working from home or just enjoying a quiet night in, residents were able to view an expansive lineup of virtual events almost immediately after the pandemic began. One of The MAIN’s popular shows, “10 by 10” Variety Night, invites ten individuals to show off their unique talent in a ten-minute act. Performers have ranged from magicians to vocalists, comedians, storytellers and many others. Other virtual events have included Stage On Screen (SOS) Theatre Fest comprised of unique live online productions, New Heights Artist Development Series to help artists hone their crafts, FOOD SESSIONS featuring local chefs and the MAIN cast Interviews that spotlight the talent behind many of The MAIN’s events.
With California’s recent “reopening” and much of our community striding back toward normalcy, The MAIN is now able to safely welcome residents back for in-person shows. One of their first live ticketed events since the pandemic will be “Enchanted: An Evening of Magic” on August 20. The fun event will feature talented magicians showcasing fantastic tricks, with a dash of comedy thrown in as well. Residents and visitors can also look forward to the return of “10 by 10” Variety Night in-person on September 2, and on every first Thursday each month. If you are interested in participating in “10 by 10” or other upcoming live events, regularly check The MAIN’s Call For Entries web page at www.AtTheMAIN.org/CallForEntries.
So, what’s next for The MAIN? The City’s opening of The MAIN not only allows for residents to gather in person again for popular events, but it also allows for a plethora of art education opportunities in the future. Youth acting classes, artist workshops, production classes and more can be hosted at The MAIN, encouraging artists and entertainers of all experience levels to network and learn from one another. The place to start for residents, visitors, artists and entertainers alike is www.Facebook.com/TheMAINNewhall. Here you will find regular updates on in-person and virtual events while also learning more about the amazing productions presented by The MAIN. Whether you are a passive observer, a diamond in the rough or a world-renown artist, there is a place for you at The MAIN. Enjoy the shows!
