He was the controller at a bank in Woodland Hills.  She worked part time for the same bank but in their legal department.  After several months of flirting and going out with friends to “happy hour” Steve and Rose began their courtship.
“Although she ignored me and played hard to get, I knew there was a strong attraction,” states Steve.

30 Years and Counting 1Whether it was a restaurant or a local park, Steve and Rose would often take their lunch breaks together.  As their commitment for one another grew, so too did their talks of the future.  “One day while having a picnic lunch under a beautiful oak tree, I proposed to Rose,” states Steve.  “She said yes, and that weekend we bought the ring.”
On July 14, 1984 the two became husband and wife at San Fernando Mission Church.  As the Chegwins recollect, “Everybody was perspiring, except for the priest.”
Nearly three decades later, Chris and Rose have been very active in the community.  Together, they have two sons, Chris and Brandon.  Their oldest son, Chris, works in the SCV for LBW Insurance and is very active in the non-profit community.  Brandon went to school at UC Colorado Springs and after graduation, got a job working in IT recruiting.
“Having lived in the Santa Clarita Valley for so many years and watching from the sidelines, with more time available as the boys got older, we were able to get involved in more community projects,” states Rose and Steve.  “We enjoy living in the SCV and want to see our community get even better.”
Rose currently serves on the Executive Board of the Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital Foundation, while Steve is co-chair on the College of the Canyons Foundation, SCV Sheriff Foundation and Chamber of Commerce Executive Board member.  The Chegwins also support various non-profit organizations including Boys & Girls Club, Soroptimist of Greater SCV and Child & Family Center to name a few.
“Marriage, as is any relationship, is ever evolving.  It is important that both partners have similar values, tastes and desires.  Building on this common platform with communication, commitment and compromise, marriage can be a beautiful thing and I believe Rose and I have a great thing going!”  Steve continues, “My wife wears her heart on her sleeve.  She is very passionate about the things she believes in, and her family and friends are the most important thing in her life.  What I love most about Rose is her desire to get the most out of life.”
“Steve is the love of my life,” states Rose.  “From the moment I met him, and to this day, he makes me laugh, and I know I am loved.  He’s my best friend and amazing father to our two sons.”
Steve and Rose will be celebrating three decades of marriage this July.  Happy 30th anniversary, and here’s to many more years of laughter and love!
