31 days of Tricks & Treats with Miss Patootie
Who is Miss Patootie? Miss Patootie is a little “scaredy-cat” witch who does not like Halloween so she came come up with her very own niche, “Under her hat, she will leave a trick or a treat for 31 days until her task is complete” wrote author Mary Janice Baxter-Jordan in her new Halloween Children’s book Meet Miss Patootie.
Miss Patootie is becoming a SUPERSTAR among children and adults! Donna Spencer, a Kindergarten teacher at James Foster Elementary wrote, “Our teachers loved the Miss Patootie treats that our PTA took turns surprising us with in our Staff Room. What a great Fall stress reliever! And my Kindergarten students looked forward to seeing the antics she would bring every day. The book is engaging for all students and we were able to do extended activities such as writing lessons and art lessons. Miss Patootie will be a part of my curriculum every October.”
Mary’s combination of whimsical rhymes and kid-friendly artwork create a story about this adorable little witch that is both relatable and inspirational. Mary uses her books as an opportunity to teach empowering life lessons. With Mary’s 27 years of experience as a pre-school teacher, she’s got a lot to draw from. “Growing up I struggled academically but I always remembered back when my kindergarten teacher read us a book called Mike Mulligan and the Steam Shovel. I remember when I saw that the illustrations were hand drawn with a pencil, it opened the possibility that one day maybe I too could illustrate or write a book. I want other children to know anything is possible no matter the struggle.” Mary said recalling fond memories.
Playing Miss Patootie is easy. First you get a big witch hat then decide who will have “Miss Patootie duty” to hide the tricks and treats. The hat and the Meet Miss Patootie book arrive on October 1st and then the fun begins. The book is full of creative and silly ideas, “You never know what she might leave like a bat or a rat or an arm in a sleeve. Or maybe a pumpkin or hot apple cider or a yummy cupcake topped with a spider,” are lines taken from the book. It’s fun for offices too, as Mary so hilariously put it, “It’s good for anyone who has a sense of humor… or anyone that needs one!”
Mary is currently illustrating a second book titled Miss Patootie Meets Rudy about a little bat that becomes Miss Patootie’s wingman and teaches her a different perspective about Halloween. Mary is also looking for licensees to help bring Miss Patootie to life with a line of Miss Patootie products.
