Luxurious and Laid-Back Kona Kai Resort & Marina San Diego
Situated at the very tip of Shelter Island in sunny San Diego, just 10 minutes away from the San Diego Airport and the happening Downtown Gaslamp District, Kona Kai Resort & Spa is a prime destination for locals and visitors alike. Its close proximity to local attractions including the World Famous San Diego Zoo, SeaWorld, USS Midway and LegoLand make it a perfect choice for families and couples looking for an easy, convenient getaway.
The recently refreshed Kona Kai Resort & Spa, a Noble House Resort, is a legend reborn with fresh, California-contemporary island-inspired décor on the tip of San Diego’s historic Shelter Island with amenities and experiences that embrace its unique location and historic past. And with the recent addition of a revolutionary heated quartz sand bed to its extensive wellness offerings at SpaTerre, guests of Kona Kai Resort & Spa will be treated to exceptionally unique new treatments including the “Sandor Poultice Therapy” and “The Heated Sand Box.”
“We are very excited to offer these incredible unique spa treatments at Kona Kai’s SpaTerre to our savvy guests,” said Dan Pierotti, vice president of Spa Development and Operations for Noble House Hotels & Resorts. “Sand heated by the sun has been a traditional method for thousands of years, even used by ancient Egyptians, and now with a modern twist, we can provide effective, holistic treatments for guests looking for full relaxation.”
The “Sandor Poultice Therapy” is specifically performed on the one-of-a-kind Crystal Quartz Table, and can only be found locally at SpaTerre. It’s a soothing customized massage preformed with heated sand poultices combined with warm aromatherapy oil, which activates the different reflex zones of the skin, stimulates the blood circulation and removes toxins and waste products.
The intimate, yet all-encompassing Kona Kai Resort & Spa, offers 129 guestrooms; a private beach for guests; 55,000 square feet of flexible indoor and outdoor function space; the new SpaTerre featuring 7,020 square feet of full-service spa space; a state-of-the-art fitness and class center; a heated outdoor pool with poolside cabanas and a seasonal outdoor Tiki Bar; Vessel Restaurant & Bar serving California Comfort fare daily; a circular bar, outdoor patio and private dining room offering 180 degree views of the marina.
Kona Kai Resort & Spa recently received TripAdvisor’s Certificate of Excellence in 2016. The prestigious Certificate of Excellence designation recognizes establishments that consistently earn great TripAdvisor reviews from travelers.
In an ideal setting for relaxation, Kona Kai Resort & Spa is the only resort in the area with an exclusive private beach available only for hotel guests and Kona Kai Club members, historically known as the “club of all clubs.” The resort sets up beach chairs and umbrellas in the summer months for comfortable all-day sun lounging overlooking the Kona Kai Marina. The resort offers beach cruisers and water sport rentals for guests to explore Shelter Island and San Diego bay. The recently revamped pool area at Kona Kai Resort & Spa is the hub of the property located in the open, Spanish-inspired courtyard in the center of the resort with open views of the marina and private beach. In the evening, guests lounge around cozy fire pits and enjoy the sunset while kids make s’mores.
Live music is offered Thursday through Saturday at the property’s onsite restaurant, Vessel Restaurant & Bar featuring local bands and California cuisine, while a large, flat-screen TV provides guests the opportunity to watch sporting events poolside. Private covered cabanas with plush, vibrant pillows and curtains are available to rent.
