The idea of a home is different for many; for some, it’s a place to entertain guests at lavish parties. For others, it’s a place to spend time with family. And to others, it’s your own niche space carved out as your own retreat from the daily hustle and bustle of life. The latter is what we find at this privately spacious home, tucked clandestinely between the rolling hills of Sand Canyon. Hidden behind a private entrance off of Sand Canyon amongst sprawling trees offering ample shade is this unique custom home. Built in classic Mediterranean style, a large stamped-concrete driveway leads the way to the front entrance; a hedge of classic English white roses provide further privacy from street traffic, as a second three-tiered fountain sits babbling, bespeckled at its base by a myriad of pansies in full summer bloom. Roses, hanging ferns, and other lush greenery hang gingerly from the smooth plaster walls, a panache of vibrant green against the cool and sophisticated cream. An outdoor living room invites those that come to sit and engage in casual conversation; open to the sounds of nature, generous hosts have a place to await their soon to arrive guests. Dark iron patio furniture affords comfortable seating around the carved hearth of the fireplace, matching the stair’s railing, fans, and the delicate pendant lighting, while a reclaimed wood table adds a natural element to tie it all together. Entering the foyer, natural light spills from the open floor plan. A fountain trickles between two ficuses, lit by delicate sconces as flagstone creates a natural foundation to the setting. In the family room, open beams, again reclaimed, continue the natural feel of the home. Earth-toned sofas are accented by polished mahogany tables, a perfect pairing to the hardwood frame of the large French doors and various windows. A generous bar of dark wood and marble counter beckon guests to mingle as they enjoy various libations; their choices showcased behind open bar doors from which the generous host can retrieve them. In the attached formal dine, plenty of seating is provided for all at a large round table. A side buffet sits, awaiting multiple courses of a bountiful meal, as lighting spills out from the chandelier hanging above. In the kitchen, rich mahogany cabinets create a stunningly dark juxtaposition to the Versailles pattern of the floor, as well as the creamy marble countertops and the tiled backsplash. A modern touch is found in the stainless appliances and drawer pulls, offset by the old-world style found in the custom mosaic above the large Viking stove. One can picture themselves washing fresh produce in the large basin sinks, or stirring large pots on the generous cooking area as they prepare their meal, soon to be served in the attached dining nook. Of course, you can’t forget the media room. Gathered on the large dark leather sofa, the family can enjoy viewing cinematics and home videos. However, the room is still inviting, as earthy tonations are found on the walls, the distressed hardwood floors, and coffered ceiling. Other beautifully unique touches to this home are a master’s bedroom with private bath; a maid’s quarters, and two exquisitely apportioned bedrooms. However, the real allure is found in the open floor plan. Each room is attached by the wrap-around porch, supported by a row of hand-hewn pillars. Outdoor furniture is situated that guests and family can gather to relax and take in the sunset. A separate guest house sits remotely off, where a recording studio is located. When not recording tracks, guests can relax in the living room, rest in their own private retreat, or relax on the balcony. And when not doing that, then there is dock on the private pond; who wouldn’t want to take a relaxing row after a long day at work, listening to the paddles crest the serene mirrored surface of their own mini lake! Everyone’s home should be their own retreat. It is obvious that “retreat” was exactly the idea in mind when this custom home was built. Whether enjoying a drink in the living room around the bar, spending time on the pond, taking in a sunset with a glass of wine on the balcony, watching a Hollywood blockbuster in the media room, or any of the other things that can be done on this secluded property, peaceful tranquility is sure to follow! This home is currently for sale. For more information, please contact Sonja Lindvall at 661-297-1665 Ext. 233 or visit www.sonjalindvall.com.
