She has graced the runway in pageants since the age of three. And now, former Miss Teen Valencia 2001 and First Runner Up for Miss Teen Santa Clarita 2001 will be vying for the Miss California USA crown. Santa Clarita resident Setareh Khatibi has lived in our Valley her whole life, having attended Wiley Canyon Elementary, Placerita Jr. High, Hart High School and eventually graduating from College of the Canyons where she received her Associates Degree in Theatre Performance. On January 6 through January 8, 2012, Setareh will be representing Newhall in the Miss California USA Pageant, held at the McCallum Theatre in Palm Springs. “I am looking forward to the pageant,” states Setarah. “I think there is something very special about being united with other motivated women who aspire to take action on transforming their dreams into a reality. Representing the go-getter, multi talented California girl and inspiring more women to do the same is what this pageant is all about.” Over 5,000 women from California applied for their chance at the crown, and approximately 150 were selected. “I am honored to be one of them and I will proudly represent the historical city of Newhall,” states Setareh. “ I think that this is a great opportunity to grow and continue to evolve as an individual. As I prepare mentally, and physically I continue to surprise myself of what I am capable of. It’s a self-woman empowerment that starts within me that can then be shared to its full potential. I am learning how to represent myself, to communicate, network, and reach out with more people and businesses of the community. I think the most important challenge in this program is getting out of one’s own way, and embracing who you are as well as learning how to share and express it.” Setareh is extremely involved in the community—whether it’s volunteering at the local Community Center, Special Olympics, or to being a part of a cast in the local theatres. Setareh currently has a role in the show In Arabia We’d All Be Kings directed SCV resident Stephen Whalen at College of the Canyons opening November 16 through November 20. “I love participating in theatre that promotes moving messages, that builds awareness in important social subjects, or that inspires. I also have a passion for comedic acting, and writing. I believe there is not a better form of holistic healing than laughter!” We wish you all the best as you set your sights on the crown!
