A whirlwind of musical 1

Growing up in a musical household, it’s no surprise that when the Santa Clarita resident picked up a guitar at the age of 11, he would be a success.  “I took lessons, but it wasn’t until high school where I became really serious about it,” states Devin.
While most kids at Hart High School were playing sports, going to the school dances, participating in ASB and so forth, Devin was driving to Hollywood and playing shows.  “The whole experience gave me some confidence,” states Devin.  “I was 10 to 15 years younger than my bandmates, but the fact that we were performing in front of crowds and record labels were coming to see us, well, it made me feel like I was doing something right.”
Shortly after Devin graduated from Hart High School, he enrolled in College of the Canyons.  “I felt like I had to go.  While the shows were getting bigger, suddenly they would nosedive.  Labels were saying we weren’t ready.”
Not even a month in college, Devin got the call to audition for Kelly Osbourne’s band.  “Hundreds of guitar players wrapped around the building during auditions. I went in, and I did my best.”  Soon after, Devin got the call to be a part of Kelly’s band.
“It was overwhelming, but I had a smile, from ear to ear,” states Devin.  “I went from being in high school to now making a great living playing the guitar at the age of 18.  I couldn’t believe it, and the Osbourne’s are one of the nicest families to be around.”
From high school to touring worldwide, Devin best describes his experiences as “a whirlwind of chaos.”
The tour ended on a high note, and a year later, Devin was asked to tour with Robbie Williams in Europe.  “While Robbie wasn’t a household name in America, he was everywhere else, and it was one of the biggest tours in Europe.  Our smallest show had 70,000 people in attendance, with some nights reaching of 135,000 fans.”
Shortly following, Devin joined the Canadian rock band, Treble Charger.  “I flew to Toronto, and there I was, 19, alone and in a different country, ready to perform with a new band.”  The band opened for Sum 41 in Halifax.  “It was quite an experience,” states Devin.  “Everyone in the audience knew every word to every song.  It was overwhelming and amazing.”
In 2004, rocker musician and friend, Avril Lavigne, asked Devin to join her band.  “Avril and I had met in Los Angeles and we have always been good friends, so when she asked me to tour with her, I quit Trebel Charger and joined Avril.”
Devin took the reigns as lead guitarist as well as Musical Director.  “I was only 20, but being in the position I was in, was surreal.  At the time, Avril sold over 20 million record.  I was getting paid to do what I love and travel in the meantime.”
Since 2003, Devin has performed at the American Music Awards, MTV Video Music Awards, 2010 Olympics Closing Ceremony and World Music Awards… to name a few.  He has also shared the stage with artists including Pink, 78 Violet, Butch Walker and the Lets Go out Tonights, Black List Club, Lights Over Paris, Ashley Parker Angel, and most recently American Idol’s David Cook.
Devin joined David Cook in 2011 and just finished a tour a few months back.   “The band is great, and David is a great rock singer.  At his core, he is a wholesome, honest good guy.”  Currently, the band is working on their third record with hopes of finishing this year.
Devin’s talent has taken him all over the world, allowing him to play with some of the greatest musicians.  “I don’t have hobbies.  When I wake up, I play guitar.  If I’m at the Grammy’s, I play guitar.  When I practice, I play guitar.  I do what I do because I love it.  The success…is just a plus.”
