Carving a Niche in the Santa Clarita Valley
by Joshua Price
The Santa Clarita Valley has many different allures that draw new families into the area. Many are drawn by the panoramic views and lovely houses. Others come for the sweeping vistas of the golf courses. Even more gravitate to the good schools and welcoming neighborhoods – wonderful motivations to settle down and raise a family. These last few reasons…and many more, are what enticed Luis Castellanos and Tyson Stone to our wonderful valley! Of course, there are always many factors to consider before deciding on a home to purchase. That’s why, with the help of local real estate agent Tripp Jones of Keller Williams Realty VIP Properties in Valencia and HGTV’s House Hunters, Luis and Tyson pared down their choices. Of course, the appeal of Santa Clarita had them sold immediately! Nestled in the quietude of the serene mountains of Sand Canyon, their three-bedroom home is found on a private cul-de-sac. A large driveway leads to the house, splashed in a decidedly earth palette of cream, tan, and grays. Multiple windows allude to the ample natural lighting within, while a front balcony off of the master bedroom creates a landing with which to greet upcoming guests. Decorated with a mixture of hardscape and plants, rock beds provide space for succulents, asparagus ferns, and day lilies, the soft pinks of escalonia, and the yellow-and-green painting of euonymus. Entering the house, a muted palette of blues, grays, and tans ensconce every wall and room. The living room sits to the right, tastefully decorated with hard wood flooring that extends into the attached formal dine. A black microfiber couch sits, punctuated by tan throw pillows. Accented by contrasting tones and textures, like a mirrored side table and stark white table lamp, a sophisticated room is tastefully tied together. In the formal dine, ample seating is afforded to guests. Swathed in a tan runner and wrapped with a scalloped edge, the contrasting white accentuates the surrounding chairs and their modernist pattern. Yellow and copper accents adorn the buffet, and custom-framed artwork adds more punch of color and life to the subtle room. The living room and kitchen blend seamlessly, producing the home’s warm heart. A large brown sectional sits bespeckled with racy reds, coordinated nicely with the expansive area rug. A large hearth of cream surrounds the fireplace, creating plenty of area for niche items like pillar candles, lanterns, and a vase of orchid sprays. Lighting atop the side table is a vase of bromeliads, while the TV is appointed upon a low dark wood entertainment cabinet. The kitchen, meanwhile, is apportioned with leather bar stools so that guests can easily be entertained while creating a meal. The counters are a lovely slate of Baltic Brown granite, set off by the honey color of the mahogany cabinetry. Stainless appliances adorn, while a bar height table sits in the eating area. Vibrant orange colors the leather chairs, while a large mirror wrapped in dark wicker hangs above the space. Nestled in a nook is a hand distressed cupboard, adding whimsy to the space. Outside the family room in the backyard, a bold brown lays the foundation in the form of hand stamped concrete. Ample seating is afforded guests via two chaises, or from the wicker seating. Offset on a raised plateau is a fire pit and built-in porch, while a large red fountain bubbles tranquilly across. A fairway of green sets the base for a large gazebo, and lighting is provided from lamps and strung bulbs. Back in the house, up the wrought iron balustrade, a landing creates plenty of area for a separate entertainment area. A stunningly striped area rug creates a bold focal point and foundation; a large cream couch sits across the television, its orange pillow a perfect accomplice to the orange swivel chair in the corner. Opposite, a rich mahogany leather armchair adds additional seating. The spare bedroom proffers seclusion for weary guests. The supple bed is draped in a sumptuous comforter of gray, red, and cream, a comfortable place to rest your weary head. Pure white vases support delicate red sprays of phaelenopsis, while other nick-knacks and photos are arranged on the dresser. A chaise sets in a separate niche, offering a place to sit and overlook the backyard. Within the master, soothing blue tones dominate. A large bed with an upholstered frame sits draped in silky creams, dotted with a natural silhouette of leaves. Coffee pillows are accented by further cream and sky-hued blue. A modernist flair is hearkened with the concentric circle wall art and the mismatched night stands. A dressing bench, tufted delicately, offers a place to sit, while a large dresser with a bias-grained inlay makes a bold statement. Down the hall is Brooklyn’s room. Baby boy blue is contrasted with red curtains and dark furniture, a fitting room for any little boy. That’s right…this happy couple is expecting! The last few months there have been last minute preparations and parties before their little bundle of joy arrives, including a baby shower from Tyson’s work acquaintances, a family baby shower in Santa Barbara and also a shower held by the neighbors. It looks like the residents of Santa Clarita have opened their arms to this family, and is making sure that they are just as happy to call our town “home” as well!
