Photography, captures a brief moment in time, a glimpse of life, a peek of culture.  For Tibor Deme, photography is his passion.
“I use photography to tell stories, to evoke our sensory and provoke our imagination…through photography, life’s precious moments, places from the world’s little corners to the deepest of the deepest oceans can be preserved and left to posterity.”
Born in Hungary, where he resided for 26 years, Tibor Deme studied the fine arts.  “I began as a painter, painting abstracts with oil on canvas.  I moved to Israel, where I lived for six years,” states Tibor.  In 2001, Tibor made his way to the United States, where he began flirting with photography.  After the birth of his son Daniel, he developed a love for the art of photography, and hasn’t put the camera down since.
“Photography tells stories vividly.  It captures the essence without distorting reality…through photographs, my audience can leave their world and come into mine.  I think photography provides a bridge that connects time and distance between worlds.”
Just about 10 years ago, Tibor’s mother-in-law was diagnosed with breast cancer.  “I saw her fight the cancer, but I never saw her down,” states Tibor.  “She never gave up, but rather focused on overcoming the disease.”  After the birth of her first grandson, Tibor and his family noticed a big improvement with her enduring will to beat the cancer.  And now, 10 years later, she is cancer free.  “Because of this,” states Tibor, “I truly believe the mind is strong and able to overcome anything!”
Tibor recently embarked on a new journey…the Turning Point Project.  For the next few years, he will photograph and interview cancer patients and survivors, compiling them into a published book.  “I will use photography to capture the inner warriors and tell the stories of each individual,” states Tibor.  “I want the cannons from their battle heard, and the celebratory fireworks shared and seen by many near and far.  I want the individual stories and portraits contained within be their pillars of strength and motivation so they have the will to fight on.”
Tibor had the opportunity to work with Colleen Shaffer, founder of Circle of Hope, Inc.  She is one of the women featured in the Turning Point Project.  During their photo session, Colleen talked about her battle with cancer, leaving Tibor speechless.  “She is an extremely strong woman, with the power of passion for life and happiness!”
Tibor has teamed up with Terry Bucknall, and will be hosting a fundraising photography exhibition at the Valencia Barnes & Noble in October of this year to raise awareness and funds for the Sheila R. Veloz Breast Imaging Center, helping improve access to breast imaging services in the Santa Clarita Valley.
“I am so proud to be partnering with Tibor, an extremely gifted and passionate photographer. We are honored to be in the presence of so many breast cancer survivors who are sharing their very personal stories and with us. We hope to attract survivors, both men and women to participate in this project,”states Terry, Director of the Sheila R. Veloz Breast Imaging Center at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital.
“I am grateful for the many opportunities and interesting people photography has presented me with,” states Tibor.  “I invite you to journey through my blog and experience the moments I have captured.”
