John F. Kennedy once said, “Nothing compares with the simple pleasure of a bike ride.” And it couldn’t be truer.
You can ride your bicycle almost anywhere in our City, and with the weather being so beautiful; you can ride almost any time of the year. Once you learn how to ride a bike, there’s no going back, and for Santa Clarita Valley resident Jerald Schneider, cycling has become a way of life.

He started off with a tricycle, given to him by his parents when Jerald was about three years old.  Just a year or two later, Jerry’s father taught him to ride his first two-wheeled bike without training wheels.  “I remember my first Schwinn.  It was indestructible.”
Jerry’s first long distance bicycling ride took him from the San Fernando Valley to the beach.  “I was only 13 or 14 years old, but it was the beginning of a life long activity that would change my life.”
A Certified Public Accountant providing quality personalized financial guidance to individuals and businesses in the Santa Clarita Valley and surrounding areas, Jerry has found that cycling has played a major role in his life.  “Cycling has played a significant part in making me who I am today.  As a kid, cycling was my first experience of independence.  I was able to travel beyond my immediate neighborhood to places I might not have been able to get to without cycling.  As an adult, cycling, aside from the exercise, provides personal challenges which leads to a feeling of accomplishment, and provides a way to travel and explore with friends with a common interest.”
As a result of cycling, Jerry and his wife have taken their love for the sport and cycled abroad.  Traveling on their tandem bike, their first cycling vacation adventure took them straight to Vermont in 1991.  A few years later, they found the time to ride from Banff to Jasper in the Canadian Rockies.  “We’ve since cycled through the wine countryside in California and Europe.  Our cycling has brought us to Canada, Mexico, Switzerland, Germany, France, Austria, Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Hungary.
“There are so many wonderful memories.  The most important is traveling with my wife, enjoying the sights and adventures together.  Cycling by tandem is like a dance.  I get to dance with my wife every day of our travel, from morning until night.”
Jerry continues to cycle approximately two to four days a week. “In Santa Clarita, there are many miles of bicycle paths to choose from,” states Jerry.  “For the most part I can ride on a bicycle friendly bike path, in a safe environment free of cars, from my home at the north end of Saugus all the way to Newhall or Canyon Country.”
Because of his avid love for cycling, Jerry started Bicycle U, Inc. “I discovered that a kid is taught to ride a bike by his or her parents and or the staff at a local bike shop,” states Jerry.  “The professional cyclists have coaches to train them.  However most of us are in between.  We are no longer kids and we are not going to race.  We need something in the middle.”
Bicycle U, Inc. provides training to adults who want to learn to ride better.
