There is no shortage of talent and success here in the Santa Clarita Valley.  Hard work, determination and passion, coupled with their dreams to succeed are paving the way for the following youth who call Santa Clarita their home.

Sammy Altenau
Sammy Altenau was accepted into the prestigious Alvin Ailey Bachelor of Performing Arts program at Fordham University in Manhattan, New York.  With a 93 percent rejection rate, the college invited Sammy to enter their program as one of 25 freshman for the class of 2013-2014. Sammy received her dance training from Dance Studio 84 in Valencia, where she has trained since she was a toddler.  The Hart High School graduate joined Dance Studio 84’s intensive training and performance group, Company 84 in 2008 and continued to be involved in all of their performances. Sammy has also danced the coveted roles of Dew Drop Fairy, Snow Queen and the Sugar Plum Fairy in the Nutcracker Ballet performances.  Adding to her list of credits, Sammy has trained with the Boston Ballet, the Joffrey West Summer Intensive in Los Angeles and was a member of the Hart High School dance team for four years.  During her term at Hart, she earned two National titles and served as the team’s captain.  She placed fifth, overall with her solo at the USA Nationals, one of the highlights of her season.  Congratulations Sammy, we wish you the best in New York!

Paving the Way 2Tim White
College of the Canyons freshman and Hart High School graduate was making his mark on the track this season.  Track and field athlete Tim White came in first place in the triple jump at the U.S. Junior Outdoor Track and Field Championship with a school record leap of 53 feet, 1 inch.  Tim is the first COC track and field student-athlete to win this prestigious title.
His record-breaking jump also earned him a spot to represent the United States and College of the Canyons at the Pan Am Junior Championships, which will take place on August 23 through August 25 in Medellin, Colombia.
“I had a great feeling about the meet,” stated College of the Canyons head track and field coach Lindie Kane. “Tim opened the competition with a huge jump that was a personal best by over a foot. That set the standard for the rest of the field. He competed on a national stage and established himself as an elite jumper. It was exciting to watch a COC student-athlete win a gold medal.”
Good luck at the Pan Am Junior Championships in August, Tim!

She also earned a Top 10 all-around finish at the 2012 Region 1 championships and won the Southern California State Level 10 title on beam while placing sixth in the all-around.  With a handful of medals and an abundance of talent, it’s no surprise Alex is headed for success!
