When little 3rd grader Lara Kaitlin first picked up the Harry Potter series and began reading, she never imagined that it would one day lead to her running her own blog and working with Barnes & Noble to start a monthly book club. But as she started reading, lightning struck and she fell in love immediately. Lara finished the entire series and continued on to read every book she could get her hands on.

But as she started reading, lightning struck and she fell in love immediately. Lara finished the entire series and continued on to read every book she could get her hands on. Then, in the fifth grade, she was appointed Accelerated Reader Captain of a group of kids in her class. Her teacher was looking to inspire her class to read more. Feeding off of her teacher’s idea, Lara went one step further and created a blog and book review website with the intention of making it easier for her classmates to choose books. Soon, kids all around the world were using her website! One thing led to another and Barnes & Noble approached Lara. They wanted her to start her own book club in order to help motivate other kids to read!
Lara is now 11 years old and in the sixth grade. In addition to running her blog and website, writing for her school newspaper, and hosting her monthly book club, Lara is working on her own stories in the hope of one day being published. She is also a full time actress and has appeared on several Disney Channel shows. Lara is always looking to inspire others to read, and donates the books she has read to local hospitals and schools. “It only takes one book to get you hooked on reading,” Lara says. “My book was Harry Potter. I am forever grateful to J.K. Rowling. Her books not only helped me to love reading, but reading has made school much easier for me and has helped my acting career tremendously.” photo courtesy Barbara Candiano-Marcus |
