Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital is pleased to announce the opening of its new cardiac rehab center where all three phases of cardiac rehab services are offered to patients in the Santa Clarita Valley and beyond. This completes the hospital’s continuum of cardiac care, which ranges from education and prevention, to diagnosis and intervention, to cardiac rehabilitation.
The cardiac rehab center, located near the pavilion on the hospital’s campus at 23845 McBean Parkway in Valencia, provides care to individuals as inpatients, upon release from the hospital, and as outpatients to promote a healthy lifestyle and take steps to prevent a future cardiac event. Preventive care, including exercise and fitness, nutritional services, and education are also available.
Dorinda Perez, RN, Clinical Coordinator of the Cardiac Rehab Center, explained that Phase 1, education for cardiac inpatients, and Phase 2, a monitored program for cardiac patients, have been offered at the hospital for several years. Phase 3 is a new offering for outpatients at Henry Mayo.
“Phase 3 is more about supervised maintenance and prevention,” Perez said. “It’s about moderation and balance and gives patients the opportunity to stay in a supervised exercise program. We make sure they stay on track with lifestyle, their medications, and we stay in close contact with their doctors.”
The cardiac rehab center is staffed by three cardiac nurses and is fully equipped to provide services for all phases of cardiac rehab. Henry Mayo accepts cardiac rehab patients from other hospitals and there is already a waiting list for cardiac rehab services.
“We see 30 to 40 patients per month for Phase 2 and we expect to see at least 50 per month for Phase 3,” she said. “The new center provides much more room and it’s a lot more comfortable for our patients.”
With its board-certified physicians, highly-trained staff and advanced technology, Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital is committed to providing a full continuum of exceptional cardiac care and diagnostics to the Santa Clarita Valley.
