A Call To Art
Santa Clarita is home to a flourishing arts scene, featuring civic art pieces, gallery exhibitions, artist development classes, workshops and an on-going variety of opportunities for entertainers of all kinds.
The City of Santa Clarita’s Arts Commissioners solicit calls for entries for exhibits, civic art pieces and performances throughout the year. Their mission is to facilitate achievement in the arts for the benefit of the entire community by connecting artists with opportunities, through juried shows, grants and workshops.
One such opportunity that may spark interest, is entering a solo or themed exhibition at one of the eight gallery locations throughout Santa Clarita. Exhibits feature a variety of mediums, such as sculptures, mixed media, photography, acrylic, watercolor and oil paintings. The City constantly looks for seasoned and emerging visual artists of all mediums to showcase their work at the ever-changing gallery spaces.
Other opportunities consist of performing live on stage in front of an audience. Show off your creative skills at 10 by 10, a variety night, by using your storytelling, magic, music, comedy or improv talents. Apply for a spot to entertain an enthusiastic audience with a 10-minute set held on the first Thursday of every month at The MAIN in Old Town Newhall as part of the City’s Thursdays@Newhall Series, presented by Valencia Auto Center. You can also check out the Note by Note series, which highlights music of all genres on the second Thursday of each month at The MAIN. This event gives musicians an opportunity to share original works, as well as cover songs performed with their own twist.
Check www.SantaClaritaArts.com often to see what’s coming up in the City. Several other organizations in the area also regularly seek artists and live performers. This website is a source for artists to find opportunities to display their work throughout the Santa Clarita Valley. If you represent an organization seeking artists for an exhibit, play or other performance, you will be able to submit a call for entries on the website as well.
