What a wonderful time of year Fall is in Santa Clarita.  The days are still long, but the temperatures are dropping and there’s an energy that comes with the cooler days and evenings. True, our trees don’t turn the brilliant reds and oranges that you might find in other parts of the country, but we won’t be shoveling snow three months from now either.

Soon, however, our deciduous trees will be turning bright yellows and lots of raking will be taking place.  Do you remember the wonderful smell of burning leaves from days gone by?  Not only does Fall bring cooler temps and colored leaves, but lots of special events in October and November bring awareness to those suffering from various cancers and the many extraordinary people who go to extraordinary lengths to support organizations raising funds to eliminate this disease.

On the calendar in The Concierge section you’ll find all sorts of wonderful events from wine festivals to walks to casino nights.  And if you can’t decide which one to go to…why not go to all of them?

You might not recognize the face of our cover story, Tyler Mane.  It’s probably not a look you’re familiar with.  One of Tyler’s better-known movie roles is behind the mask of Michael Myers in Rob Zombie’s remake of the gruesome movie, Halloween.  We were pleased to get an interview with Tyler because of his connection with the movie, but get the real story behind Tyler’s drive and determination and find out just how different he is from most of the roles he’s played.

In keeping with Halloween, we found a local dad who takes the ghoulish holiday quite seriously – sort of.  When you learn what Scott Schultz does as a member of CalHaunts, you will want to join the club.  Find out what makes someone work all year long for just one night of fun.  Actually, according to Scott it’s fun all year.

Our special Kids’ Parties and Holiday Gift Guides will help you find just what you’re looking for when trying to come up with a great idea for your next birthday party or locating just the right gift for that special person.  And while you’re checking out things to buy, be sure to consult our So Divine this issue and discover just how divine orange can be.

Santa Clarita Valley Olympic athletes have much to be proud of.  They certainly placed themselves among the sport world’s elite with their performances in Beijing.  In our August/September issue we brought you the stories of Olympic hopefuls Allyson Felix, track and field star, and BMXer, Mike Day.  We’re pleased to report that both athletes stood on the podium at the games, both taking Silver medals in their respective sports with Allyson taking the podium a second time, earning a Gold medal as a member of the women’s 4 x 400m relay team.  Crystl Bustos of Canyon Country, accustomed to winning medals (she has 2 Golds from previous Olympics) brought home a Silver medal as part of the USA Softball team and David Neville finished third in the men’s individual 400m race earning him a Bronze medal and later in the event, he earned a first place Gold as part of the men’s 4 x 400m relay team.  Congratulations to you all.

We would like to remind you to take a moment on Veteran’s Day, November 11 to pay tribute to the many men and women who have served and are currently serving in our Armed Forces all around the world.  Without them, our way of life may be compromised and we would not have the freedom and sense of safety we all enjoy.

Have fun and stay safe on Halloween, be thankful on Thanksgiving that you live in America, and be sure to exercise your right to vote on November 4.

And remember, if you’re looking for a place for holiday visitors to stay, a unique gift for that special person, a great dinner or just a place to play…The Concierge is at your service.
