There comes a time in every parent’s life when their children grow older and their frequency in the home lessens.  At this stage, many parent’s priorities in a home change from that of raising a family to looking for a home with more ample room to entertain visitors.  Recently switching residency from the secluded Sand Canyon area, Carl Goldman and Jeri Seratti-Goldman have relocated their nest.  Located on the outskirts of Canyon Country, the Goldman family has found a new home in a quaint residence of the newly built Fair Oaks community.
Upon arrival at the home, the first thing that catches the eye is a modernist take of a hard-scaped, desert-inspired garden.  A collage of beiges and deep browns with subtle accents of green and purple, the curb appeal of the Goldman’s home is more of an artistic expression mapped out by the family in partnership with California Pool and Spa’s Manuel Soto.  Beginning at the sidewalk, a sand-colored stone walkway forges a subtle path through the yard into a dividing, fenced-off area surrounded by accentuating stone-faced pillars and a self-interpreted picket fence consisting of dark iron.  In lieu of a traditionally uniform lawn in front of the house, elongated, frayed woodchips decorate the sides of the driveway with accenting shrubs patterned among.
Amidst the pathway is a single pillar supportive of a deep, ceramic bowl housing a bouquet of greens and purples.  Leading up to the front door, an intricately crafted gate presents itself two steps above the khaki, stone path and serves as a continuing piece of fence between two pillars topped by Gothic-style revival pieces.  Inside the fenced area, the ground makes a weathering transition from wood to gravel, surrounding the trail with an adobe-looking fountain in the middle of the endless sea of pebbles inside the fence. Approaching the big, brown entrance to the home, a hallway encapsulates the visitors; above them hovers a large, iron cross between a lantern and a chandelier.
Enter through the large hewn door, centered with an elegantly crafted, glass window, and the lavish living room presents itself.  Victorian nature with its elegantly crafted coffee and side tables and accessories, the room offers a well-decorated, traditional, family setting.  The two floral couches accompanied by the paisley carpet and drapes set the color scheme of the room with deep reds and bold olives and beiges dispersed throughout the different pieces of furniture.  Seeming to have an art-deco nature, the furniture also establishes a floral theme with various bouquets of roses and other similarly colored flowers arranged throughout.  Against one of the walls, an antique-looking curio cabinet stately sits, housing multiple art pieces and souvenirs from around the world and bringing a rich culture to the setting.  Finally, at the center of the other wall, the focal point of the room, the entertainment center makes a bold and imposing statement.  Three-pillared and traditionally crafted, this piece serves a dual purpose; symbolizing togetherness, many fond memories of the family are displayed within differently sized and shaped picture frames.
Across the hallway, the kitchen and dining room are coupled together in a great room.  Granite countertops, tiled walls, and state-of-the-art kitchen appliances turn this place into any entertainer’s paradise.  The beautiful cabinetry, juxtaposed against the straight edges and corners of the metal on each of the appliances and tiles on the wall give this room a futuristic twist on Victorian style.  The mini chandeliers above the center island further this theme, giving off feelings of modern art in a traditional atmosphere.  Transitioning from the kitchen to the dining room is a simple lounge area where one would expect to enjoy a morning cup of coffee while reading the newspaper.  Into the dining room, the theme of simplicity continues as an oak table and chairs and a large buffet sit comfortably on the wooden flooring prevalent across the house’s first story.  A classic chandelier hangs over the table and gives the room ample lighting; natural light pours through a large sliding glass door as well.  In the corner, a brick fireplace stands with a single shelf supporting a sepia-toned family portrait.  Accented with bright shades of green from plants, the feeling of the room is hospitably comfortable and would make anyone feel welcome.
Alighting up the stairs, the master bedroom serves as a retreat from the busy lives of the homeowners in the entertainment industry.  Simple but bold, the room is sparsely furnished with pieces that continue the Victorian motif throughout the household.  An armoire, a bureau, night stands, and a bed, the matching pieces of dark maple seamlessly fill the area.  Supporting multiple picture frames of family members and several pieces that represent the couple’s respective personalities, the furnishings in this room are simple and tasteful.
At the end of the tour arrives the greatly anticipated backyard – not at all intended to be an afterthought.  Walk through the glass door from the kitchen and above floats a cross-hatched pattern of dark brown; below, a worn brown and grey tiled stone; and to the right sit turquoise and beige themed pillows serving as an accent to the dark metal they rest upon with a stone table as the center-piece.  A few paces forward and an overlapping-patterned stone walkway divides lawn and gravel en route to the main entertaining area.  A wooden overhang equipped with heat lamps and ceiling fans, continuing with the dark wood theme, gives shelter to the outdoor kitchen equipped with a grill, sink, and refrigerator, all capped by a stunning granite countertop.  Further on is an artistically stacked fireplace that extends to the ceiling, pulling the outdoor area together and creating an outdoor living space that acts as a center for comfort and warmth.  Sitting on top of the same brown-and-gray worn stones are two sets of patio furniture backed by filigreed designs.  Directly to the right, under the warm rays of the Santa Clarita sun, is an elevated pool and spa that coincide together like a modern jigsaw puzzle, as well as a spa-like sunbathing area.
An oasis in the hilly desert of Canyon Country, the Goldman residence achieves the goal the homeowners had in mind.  Creating a modern take mixed seamlessly with traditional themes, a home of elegance and simplicity sets the foundation for entertaining and comfort.  An empty nest isn’t a bad thing after all!
