Beauty & An Open Highway Along Highway One Discovery Route!
Nestled in the golden hills of Paso Robles lies the humble fisherman’s town of Morro Bay. Complete with boutique shops, wine bars, and restaurants, Morro Bay has something for everyone. Located off the coast of California, along the iconic Highway 1 route, this small town has huge opportunities for some much needed rest and relaxation.
Morro Bay is a picturesque seaside village that draws travelers who seek adventure and escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life. This magnificent place has so much to offer. It has everything from outdoor adventures to more relaxed settings. There is something for everyone: For the active people you can kayak, paddle board, surf, hike, sail, and tons more. For those who prefer to relax a subtler way, there are restaurants, shops, galleries and museums.
The amenities are vast but the scenery will keep you in a trance for hours. take a step into a slower way of life. Located along the iconic Highway 1, this town offers miles of sandy beaches with a 20/20 view of the Pacific Ocean. Morro Bay is home to the historic landmark, Morro Rock (known to the locals as El Morro). You can take a ride on a surrey from Farmer’s Kites & Surreys. A surrey is a large golf cart-like bicycle that allows for great 360 views while riding, but be sure to warm up a little before riding.
Settle into one of their boutique hotels. One of the best is The Landing at Morro bay. The rooms are immaculate and well-decorated. The hotel staff is very friendly and accommodating. No matter any time of night you are able to reach the manager (on their private cell) to get brought whatever is needed to make your stay more comfortable. This boutique hotel offers astonishing views of the harbor. It is about a block’s walk from your room to the water and countless shopping opportunities and dining options.
Throughout the town are wine bars and wineries that offer decadent options for wine enthusiasts. Our first stop on the adventure is Stax Wine Bar. This pocket of sunshine offers a unique experience to a variety of wines. The décor provides for an intimate setting where you can enjoy a glass or try their different mixes or tasting flights. Another place that is a must try, is Chateau Margene. Famous for their luxury award-winning Cabernet Sauvignon, this micro-winery produces only 3,000 cases a year.
Another fun and exciting stop is the Chablis Cruises. Chablis is a unique, 50-foot, two-story riverboat that graces the gentle waters of beautiful Morro Bay Harbor. The plushly decorated interior with its panoramic windows and rooftop deck make it the perfect setting for parties, business meetings, bridal showers, weddings, receptions, and events of all kinds. A cruise on Chablis will be a lasting memory. They offer a champagne brunch with an all you can eat buffet.
Along Embarcadero there are some amazing places to stop and see. Morro Bay is resident to such attractions as the Skateboard Museum, Estuary Nature Center, The Garden Gallery, The Shell Shop and Junque Love to name a few. The skateboard Museum spotlights the complete history of skateboarding starting from the 1930s. They feature over 200 skateboards from all eras with exhibits from private collections. Stop by The Garden Gallery. It is a blend of indoor and outdoor living that displays all that is the California Way. If you are still feeling nature bound, try the Estuary Nature Center. This free exhibit gives patrons a bird’s eye view on how to protect habitats and wildlife. If you are in the mood for a little shopping Embarcadero is froth with shopping options. One in particular is Junque Love. This quaint store represents the heart and soul of the California Coast. Speaking of coast, be sure to grab souvenirs for the entire family at the Shell Shop. Family-owned and operated and has the largest selection of marine sea shells. All this shopping is sure to work up an appetite!
Morro Bay has some of the most exotic restaurants that offer a wide selection of recipes. The Galley Seafood Grill & Bar has fed the masses since 1966. This is the place to experience some of the best premium Seafood while overlooking the beautiful harbor. Another restaurant that has breath-taking views is Windows on the Water. This perfectly placed eatery combines seasonal, locally sourced ingredients with stunning views of the harbor. This restaurant has been dubbed one of the most romantic restaurants in Morro Bay. Our journey ended with heaping portions of deliciousness from Frankie & Lola’s. This casual American favorite restaurant serves their food from scratch. The perfect place to start on “fill up” before embarking on the road home.
