REP Presents 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee
The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, by Rebecca Feldman, music and lyrics by William Finn, book by Rachel Sheinkin, follows six young people in the throes of puberty, overseen by grown-ups who barely managed to escape childhood themselves.  Along their journey they learn that winning isn’t everything and that losing doesn’t necessarily make you a loser.  Tickets are $25 for Adults and $20 for students and seniors.  Group rates are available.  There is no show Sunday, February 3.  Advanced reservations are highly recommended.  For tickets, purchase online at www.repeastplayhouse.org or call 661-288-0000.

Canyon Theater Guild Presents Seussical
SEUSSICAL is directed by Donna Manfredi, with vocal direction by Tony Oliver, choreography by Joe Polinski, set and lighting design by Bryan Maly, costumes by Wendy Hahn and assistant director, John Morris.  There are Saturday and Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. on January 26, 27, February 2, 9, 10, 16, and 23.  Sunday evening at 6 p.m. on February 3, 17, and Friday at 8 p.m. on February 15.  Tickets are $15 for Juniors/Seniors and $17 for adults.  The Canyon Theatre Guild is located at 24242 Main Street in Newhall.?  For more information, call 661-799-2702.

Friday, February 8 Queen of Hearts Masquerade Ball 6 p.m. – 11 p.m.

Romance at the Rancho 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.
Spend the day with your special someone at Rancho Camulos Museum National Historic Landmark to experience “Romance at the Rancho.”  Bring a picnic and blanket and enjoy the beautiful romantic setting.  A special treat will also be provided.  The suggested donation is $14 per couple. The Gentle Barn Valentine’s Day Celebration

19th Annual Creation Symposium – 2 p.m.
The will take place at The Master’s College and the theme will be “A Christian Response to Atheism and a Creation Response to Natural Evil.”?  Critics of Christianity challenge the idea that there is evidence to support that God exists.  In addition, some critics also add that the imperfection in nature, as exemplified by disease, pestilence and natural disasters (natural evil) works against the idea that there is a benevolent creator God.  What is the Christian response to these views?  Our speakers will be providing a Christian response to these critiques.  The afternoon sessions will feature Dr. Gordon Wilson, a biologist at New St. Andrews; and Master’s College faculty.  The afternoon sessions will address the issue of “A Creation Response to Natural Evil,” beginning at 2 p.m., and will include a dinner with the speakers at 5 p.m.  (This session with dinner will require a registration and fee.)  The free evening session will address “A Christian Response to Atheism” and will begin at 7 p.m., on the campus of The Master’s College.  For more information please contact Mrs. Vicki McClure at vmcclure@masters.edu.” data-mce-href=”mailto:vmcclure@masters.edu.“>vmcclure@masters.edu.

2013 Celebrity Waiter
This year’s theme is “Beyond the Sea,” and guests are invited to come in costumes related to the theme.  Table hosts will decorate their tables and invite up to 10 guests.  Each table will have a “celebrity waiter”–a celebrity arranged by the committee, a celebrity selected by the table host, or a member of the table host’s own organization.  Tables and waiters will be competing for three prizes: Best Decorated, Best Theme (which includes guest costumes) and Favorite Waiter (the table which brings in the most “tips” and/or donations.  The event will be located at the Hyatt Valencia.  Local residents interested in table sponsorships, auction donations, or individual ticket sales can contact Lisa at the Senior Center, 259-9444 or check the Senior Center’s website at www.scv-seniorcenter.org.  For more information, contact Pat Willett at 661-259-3845.

SuperStates Scholastic Chess Championships

Canyon Country Community Health Fair
9 p.m. – 1 p.m.
Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial in partnership with the City of Santa Clarita will conduct a Community Health Fair at the Jo Anne Darcy Library. Local residents can receive the following screenings: Blood Pressure Monitoring, Height and Weight Analysis, Body Fat Analysis, Oxygen Saturation and Carbon Monoxide Measurement, Cholesterol Test (12-hour fasting recommended), Glucose Test (12-hour fasting recommended), and Stroke Prevention Education.  Children’s games, activities and face painting will be part of the festivities!  Join us!  The health fair is open to the community; admission and health screenings are free.  Spanish speaking materials and translators are available.  For more information, please call 661-200-1306.

9th Annual KHTS Sacramento Road Trip
The idea started with a conversation between then State Assemblyman Keith Richman and station owner, Carl Goldman at a charity event in 2005.  Assemblyman Richman felt most of our community leaders didn’t have an understanding of the challenges our state legislative officials faced in Sacramento.
