Canyon High School Celebrates 50th Anniversary
It has been 50 years since Canyon High School became the second, high school in the William S. Hart Union High School District, and on September 4, 2018, you can join alumni, students, staff and parents to celebrate the anniversary.
The day after Labor Day is “Back to School” night at Canyon High School, but this coming fall it will be so much more than that. Hundreds of alumni will be on the campus, many for the first time in decades. Over the years, the campus has changed with the addition of new buildings, including the 452-seat Performing Arts Center (PAC), as well as modernizations that include the football stadium.
Make your plans to attend Canyon High School’s 50th Anniversary Celebration on Tuesday, September 4, from 6 to 9 p.m.
The evening will start in the school’s PAC where alumni can enjoy performances from the Canyon Wind Ensemble and the concert choir. In addition, the theatre department will perform a scene from A Gift of Time by Garson Kanin, which was the first play ever performed by the theatre department when the school first opened. Finally, a documentary will be shown taking visitors through the school’s history with alumni and former staff interviews, images and video.
Afterward, everyone will be invited to stroll through the gym and the Decades of Memorabilia Walk, where pictures and yearbooks from each of the five decades will be on hand. Alumni can also listen to more musical performances on the outdoor stage, visit with teachers, enjoy a car show and food trucks, and, perhaps most importantly, get a chance to catch up with classmates.
As part of the celebration of the school’s opening 50 years ago, Canyon will honor the high school’s 50 Most Influential People. They are graduates, teachers, administrators… anyone instrumental in the success of the school and those associated with it. The 50 will be spread over six different categories: education, athletics, arts/entertainment, business, government and others. Pictures of the 50 will be displayed in the PAC lobby.
You can also personally commemorate the occasion with a brick that will be permanently added to the front entrance of the PAC. Visit https://www.engravedbricks.com/campaign/canyon for more information.
Attendees will include several past administrators and teachers, including former principal and current Hart School District Superintendent Vicki Engbrecht, former principal and current Assistant Superintendent Mike Kuhlman, and former teacher and current Hart School Board Member Linda Storli.
