Celebrate Art & Culture
Springtime splendor has arrived in Santa Clarita. As the season changes, art and cultural opportunities in our community are in full bloom for all to enjoy. How will you welcome spring? Perhaps you will hone your artistic skills in a new local art class. Maybe you’ll enjoy dinner in Old Town Newhall, followed by a show at The MAIN with your significant other. Or, perhaps you and your friends will bask in the beauty of a new featured art exhibit. Wherever the spring season takes you, make time for art and culture in Santa Clarita.
One of the best places in town for artists and art lovers alike is the new Canyon Country Community Center. The new facility offers enriching local art opportunities through its welcoming lobby art gallery, varied public art pieces, art classes and new cultural and arts-based programming. In April, the City is welcoming the new “Celebrate” series to the Community Center. This series is true to its name, celebrating cultures, customs and culinary wonders from around the world. Local artists will showcase their talents in specialties, including crafting, dancing, music, artwork and more. This year’s “Celebrate” experience will take residents on a journey from Polynesia to India, Greece, the Caribbean and other destinations. Although the call for artists has closed for the 2022 “Celebrate” series, artists and residents are encouraged to attend to revel in the creative talent and diverse cultures we have in Santa Clarita. Every month, a new culture will be celebrated on the first Friday from April through September. Learn more and look out for calls for artists by monitoring www.SantaClaritaArts.com.
From Canyon Country to Old Town Newhall and every neighborhood in-between, you are sure to find artistic outlets for every age and interest. Much like “Celebrate” at the Canyon Country Community Center, art and culture are being praised monthly at The MAIN. The City’s multi-use arts and entertainment venue hosts original productions, a global film series, monthly variety nights, art workshops and music events nearly every week of the year. What truly makes The MAIN special is that it welcomes local artists and performers of every skill set to hone and share their chosen craft with the community. In addition to theatrical performance auditions, The MAIN invites entertainers to take the stage for a ten-minute performance of their choosing every first Thursday of the month during “10 by 10” Variety Night. Emerging artists, writers, directors and producers in Santa Clarita should also take the time to join The MAIN’s monthly Art Tank workshops for valuable discussions and collaboration. Each Art Tank workshop delves into a new topic with industry experts providing personal experiences, recommendations and more in a casual setting. View The MAIN’s upcoming events and submit your work to open calls for artists at www.AtTheMAIN.org.
Art and culture exist on every corner of Santa Clarita. As our community grows, so do our opportunities for exploration and growth within the arts fields. Take advantage of these artistic endeavors regardless of your experience level. The City of Santa Clarita is fortunate to have amateur artists, world-renowned entertainers and casual performers that call our community home. Step into a new art class, art exhibit or art opportunity this spring!
