Celebrating 30 Years in the Santa Clarita Valley Kaiser Permanente
Thirty years ago, on the heels of Santa Clarita’s official incorporation, Kaiser Permanente came to the city with a mission to provide high-quality, affordable health care services to the Santa Clarita Valley.
“We initially started as a small primary care office on Soledad Canyon Road at Ruether Avenue in July 1989, with only six providers,” says Marc Hoffman, DO, prior Assistant Area Medical Director responsible for overseeing Kaiser Permanente’s growth in the Santa Clarita Valley.
“Since then, our prominence and presence as a major health care delivery system in the Santa Clarita Valley has improved the health of some 75,000 members — a quarter of the area’s population!”
To keep up with the growing community, Kaiser Permanente opened its next medical office building, Santa Clarita Medical Offices, in 1994, followed by the new and improved Canyon Country Medical Offices in 2008 to further support and enhance the services already being provided on the other side of the valley.
“Our goal in Santa Clarita has always been to provide as many services as possible locally, so our members don’t have to travel to the San Fernando Valley or beyond for primary and specialty care,” says Payman Roshan, Senior Vice President and Area Manager, Kaiser Permanente Panorama City and Antelope Valley.
With that in mind, Kaiser Permanente purchased the old Borax headquarters on Tourney Road, and in March 2018 the building opened as Santa Clarita Medical Offices 2, providing comprehensive specialty care services to our members of the Santa Clarita Valley for the first time. Members will notice a dramatic difference upon entering the new medical office building, which has been completely transformed. The space represents Kaiser Permanente’s evolution toward creating highly efficient, environmentally-friendly facilities designed to improve the patient experience.
“The care our members receive is the same as it has always been, but technology has evolved the way we deliver it. We’re able to provide care from wherever our members are most comfortable – which could be in one of our medical offices, through a video appointment or email,” adds Hoffman.
“We work hard to meet our members where they live, work and play so good health can easily become a way of life,” says Roshan.
Both Kaiser Permanente and the Santa Clarita Valley have seen a lot of growth over the past 30 years. And as the city continues to evolve, so does Kaiser Permanente, now offering a full suite of services to our members in the Santa Clarita Valley.
