Celebrating Five Years With The Fairy Godmother of Flowers
When you walk into White Fig Designs you get a sense of poetic mystery what you do that insights a feeling of serenity and happiness. This humble shop has the elements that can only be described as magical, making it the ideal place for your decorative floral needs.
For the past five years, White Fig Designs has been providing our community and further with a combination of beauty and grace in their creations. Owner Erin Hopkins has always had a creative touch. She began with custom jewelry designs and in 2010, with the kids out of the house, and a thirst for adventure, she embarked on a search for something new. Hopkins was known to do floral arrangements and event decorations for close friends and family. She noted, recalling when the economy crashed, “I kept asking my kids what I should do, and they said ‘Why don’t you do [designing things] and stop doing it for free’” Within weeks she started doing orders from her home and eventually the demand grew too large for her living room. She and her husband began looking for a store front throughout the Santa Clarita Valley. They finally settled on the quaint location in Newhall.
From the time the store opened until now, the White Fig Designs team have worked with brides-to-be and event hosts to create custom designs. Hopkins and her team makes sure that orders are done to reflect their personality. ”We’ve done arrangements out of cake plates, we’ve done arrangements out of logs…I love when people bring in their own vessels (vases, containers, etc) it lets me see a hint of their personality,” She continued with a huge smile,.“ The more interesting it is the more creative we get to be!” They work closely with clients to pick the right colors and scheme until its perfect for the big day.
Hopkins stays current with design tips and ideas with continuing education. Erin noted, “Education is a huge thing for me.” She takes workshops all over the country and will attend a workshop in Italy this year. White Fig Designs offers flower workshops and flower bars for in the home to ignite the creative fires for any gathering.
White Fig Designs always has the customer and our community in mind. All event orders must be taken a few weeks in advance, and orders for delivery must be done with a few days- window; because all flowers are then ordered to the shop fresh. The studios main philosophy is to keep things natural, organic and fresh from the garden, “no fussy flowers here”. They are committed to using seasonal flowers as much as possible that are locally grown. The White Fig Designs team works with natural materials and remains passionate about expressing beauty through visual creativity. They now offer boutique gift items that are mostly made from small business here in America. From the soaps to the bracelets each item is carefully assembled, shipped and has a cause behind, such as the candle holders where the company only hires single mothers.
This humble studio continuously gives back to the community. They have designed arrangements for the State of the City Address four years running. Additionally, White Fig Designs has donated arrangements to local causes such as the Henry Mayo Home Tour and Food Forward, a local non-profit trying to stop hunger both locally and nationally. Hopkins is a believer in creating relationships with their customers, “I love that we help a bride design her bouquet and then we design arrangements for her baby shower is just amazing to me.”
