Santa Clarita is the true calling of the Santa Clarita Artist Association’s Art Classic held on Sunday, October 17.  More than 100 pieces of visual art were on exhibit which included: watercolors, oils, acrylics, still life, portraits, animals and bird paintings, landscapes, abstracts, collages, mixed media, photography, etchings and sculptures.
Over 300 guests viewed different artwork of the association members.  Gold, Silver and Merit Awards were presented to members.  A Scholarship Award of $1,000 was given to Youhwa Shin, a student from Korea who graduated in 2010 from Golden Valley High School.  Youhwa was chosen by the Scholarship Committee to receive the award to use for her college expenses. Mrs. P. J. Vernon, Golden Valley High School Art Teacher, was “Guest of Honor” and a new “Service Award” was given for the first time to Jaylene Armstrong for her contributions to the artist association and residents of the community.  Guests enjoyed food from the Hyatt and were served by high school student volunteers.  The Art Classic is a classic because it elevated artistic awareness within SCV.
