Cultivating Wisdom, Inspiration, Joy and Success Trinity Classical Academy
She came home with a vision, a vision to one day start a school. Together with her husband and the support of the church and the community, her idea soon became a reality. In the early 1990’s, Liz and her husband Wally Caddow entertained the idea of creating a school. It wasn’t until 1997 when the idea became concrete. “We presented the concept of creating a school to our church in the form of a survey,” states Wally. “We wanted to see who would be interested in jumping ‘on board’ with us.” Ten people came to the initial meeting and after a few years of planning, their dream became a reality. Trinity Classical Academy opened its doors in 2001. “We began on 15th Street in Newhall with only 28 students ranging from kindergarten through 2nd grade. Due to our increasing enrollment, we had to relocate several times,” states Liz. “In fact, at one point in time, we were at three different campuses.” Just two years ago, Trinity relocated to their current location, which is a new facility located on the new NorthPark Community Church campus. The state-of-the-art campus is stunning, with larger classrooms and recreation areas, with future plans of building a gym and additional classrooms. What began as 28 students just ten years ago has now grown to 337 students. “Every year we added another grade level. Just four or five years after we opened, we had to open another kindergarten class,” states Liz, “and now, our grade level extends to the 11th grade, with two tracks in kindergarten through grade 5.” And Trinity just keeps growing. Next school year, more classes will be added along with the opening of a 12th grade. “It’s simply amazing,” states Liz. “What we have seen in the last three years is that, despite the economy, we have experienced the most growth exponentially, adding our high school and now getting closer to graduating our seniors.” What is Trinity’s key to success? “We focus on the basics,” states Liz. “Our early mission was to be able to represent the Santa Clarita Christian community. We wanted to focus on the essentials of faith while providing a rigorous education in the classical tradition.” At Trinity, students are getting top caliber teachers. “We have scholars who are sought out all over the world but choose to spend their mornings here teaching our students,” states Wally. “Our teachers are devoted to their students and bring a wealth of knowledge to the classroom.” With high demands come high expectations, and students at Trinity are exceeding those expectations. “The model we are embarking on is producing stellar students,” states Liz. “At each stage of the development, students are focusing on specific skills. In grammar school, they are building up memory skills for facts and principles in subject areas. This establishes a strong foundation needed in the later stages of Logic (grades 7th through 8th) and Rhetoric (grades 9th through 12th).” Students in 7th and 8th grade are diving into topics such as Latin, formal logic and classical writing. In grades 9th through 12th, students are taking courses such as Advanced Argumentation and Composition, English Composition and Rhetoric One and Two.” Now in it’s tenth year, remarkable things are happening at Trinity Classical Academy.
