Dr. Amanda Woodworth Empowerment and Everything In Between

by | Oct 21, 2022 | Cover Story

Dr. Amanda Woodworth describes herself as a “different breed” of surgeon – for her, every patient she sees is more than just a number or another client to check off her schedule for the day. As the Director of Breast Health for Keck Medicine of USC at Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital, Dr. Woodworth spends much of her time researching not just the medical and surgical aspects of her job, but the personal side, too, meaning that every patient that walks through the door to her office gets the Woodworth treatment.

Dr. Woodworth is a breast surgical oncologist, meaning her work involves treating all diseases of the breast, both benign and cancerous. She spends much of her time at multidisciplinary conferences, operating, and seeing patients for different reasons and treatments.
The most important part of her job, though, can be summed up in one word: empowerment.
“I’m extremely passionate about women’s health,” she says. “I want the women of Santa Clarita to know that I’m here for them, not only for breast problems, but to help with their overall health.”
Day in and day out, Dr. Woodworth focuses on uplifting women and helping them get to a place where they can do everything they love while also taking care of themselves.
“When women are diagnosed with breast cancer, or even if there’s a scare, it’s one of the scariest times in their life,” she says. “I feel that as a physician, it’s my responsibility to make things easier for them.”
In addition to her roles as a physician and surgeon, she’s also the founder of the Girl Talk series at Henry Mayo. Girl Talk is a social and informative series that features a panel of medical experts ready to answer questions and provide support and encouragement to the women of SCV across the entire age spectrum.
The Girl Talk series is just one part of Dr. Woodworth’s role in empowering and encouraging SCV’s women. She works alongside her team at the hospital to ensure that everyone receives the physical and emotional support they need to be the best version of themselves.
Dr. Woodworth and her husband live locally right in Valencia and are very fitness focused – every morning, she and her husband start off with a jog through the Paseos with their dog. Their two-mile loop is the perfect way to get the day started, and it’s just one way that she keeps herself active and healthy.
For Dr. Woodworth, it’s crucial for her to take care of herself, so she can take care of others to the best of her ability.
Part of what Dr. Woodworth loves about our community is the social aspect; she and her husband love living in the middle of the city, because it lets them enjoy the outdoors, interact with the community, and provides countless opportunities to stay active and on top of their health.
“I’m very oriented towards upping the game for women’s health and improving my own knowledge overall,” she says.
