Enjoy the Beauty of Oxnard
An outdoor adventure awaits in the coastal City of Oxnard, just 60 miles north of Los Angeles. Oxnard’s majestic Channel Islands Harbor is a playground for outdoor lovers of all kinds. From kayaking through the gentle waters of the harbor to a thrilling ride on a jet ski or stand-up paddle board, visitors can choose from many fun adventures to fit their more ‘wild’ or ‘softer’ side. Electric boats are a great way to explore the harbor while taking in the sites. And if the evening calls for romance, Gondola Paradiso offers a sunset cruise through the harbor’s canals. Several restaurants adorn the harbor ranging from Brazilian cuisine to fresh seafood, and wine & spirits. Visitors can get pampered at Bella Mar Salon & Spa offering a wide range of beauty services and great place to unwind and escape.
For those who want to venture to sea, Island Packers, the official concessionaire to the Channel Islands National Park provides daily excursions to the park, just 11 miles offshore from Oxnard. Options include a half-day island wildlife cruise, full day landing cruises complete with a narrated hike conducted by an island ranger, overnight camping adventures, and birding excursions where visitors can see many species of birds including the Scrub Blue Jay, Scripp’s Murrelets, Western Gulls, Brown Pelicans and more. Island Packers also offers two whale watching seasons during the year – the Pacific Gray Whales migrate through the Santa Barbara Channel the day after Christmas through mid-April and the Blue Whales venture through the coastal waters from June through September. For those who want to experience diving, but don’t want to get wet, the Channel Islands National Park offers its Live Dive Program where rangers dive through the pristine kelp forests which includes interactive broadcasts where visitors can talk to the rangers, ask questions and see the natural beauty of this extraordinary underground through this amazing technology. The broadcasts are offered live on Anacapa Island’s landing platform and at the Channel Islands National Park headquarters.
Outdoor enthusiasts will also find a myriad of additional activities in Oxnard including bike riding along the scenic shores, surfing, fishing, golfing or just opt for sun bathing along Oxnard’s seven miles of clean, uncrowded beaches. Ormond Beach also offers additional opportunities for bird watching and is one of the few remaining coastal habitats in southern California.
