For the LOVE of Acting with Jessica Stone
Jessica was only six weeks old when she got her start in entertainment. “I have an older brother who’s about four and half years older than me. When he was little, agents were clamoring to get him because he has red hair. When I was born, they were like ‘Oh, another red head! We’ll take her too.’ And I just fell into it. One day my brother was like, ‘I don’t want to do this anymore.’ I was three or four. My mom said I looked up at her and said, ‘I do!’ I had fallen in love.
Jessica credits her parents, especially her mom, for helping her to evolve into the person she is today. “I wouldn’t even have a career if it wasn’t for my mom. If she hadn’t been willing to just drop everything and take me to auditions and jobs, pay for all the headshots and the classes, I wouldn’t be who I am. But on top of that she is always there for me. Even now, she’s always telling me to go for it”.
Years after her start, Jessica shares the lessons she’s learned throughout her career with others, teaching acting to young children and teenagers at both VIBE Performing Arts and Spotlight Arts Center. “It’s really fulfilling, and I get to share my love of acting with other kids. I think the most rewarding part is the bond that I form with the children. Some of them are doing it for fun. Some of them are doing it because they want to do this as a career. Either way, I do have a lot to teach, and I’m happy to share my love of it and help them along.”
Her most important piece of advice to anyone who dreams of working in entertainment is simple: do it because you love it. “The one job you get has got to be worth the 300 auditions you go on to get it. There’s nothing in the world I love more than acting. It’s when I feel most at peace and when I feel like I’m doing what I’m supposed to be doing. It’s not about the money, and it’s not about the fame. It’s great that I have people who look up to me. That’s really rewarding, but for me it’s just about the pure joy and love of being able to act.”
