HARD WORK PAYS OFF FOR TRENTON IRWIN
For as long as he’s known, Trenton Irwin has had his heart set on following his passions, and after pursuing his education and doing his fair share of self-reflecting, it’s the football field that called out to him.
Trenton is a 26 year old SCV native, Hart High School alumnus, and now Stanford graduate living life in the moment – and loving every second of it. On the field he’s an NFL Receiver for the Cincinnati Bengals, and behind the scenes, he’s splitting his time between practice, study sessions, and get-togethers with teammates and friends.
He got his start in the world of football at just five years old, when he played his first game of flag football. Trenton’s father was into the sport, too, so you could say that the love for the field runs in the family.
Of course, his family still continues to play a significant role in who he is both as a player and your everyday young adult.
“Every single person in my family has helped develop me into who I am today, both on and off the field,” he says.
Alongside his family, Trenton credits his teammates and coaches with allowing him to meet amazing people from all walks of life, which he shares as one of his favorite parts of the game.
Though he has nothing but love and dedication to what he does, Trenton’s journey wasn’t without challenges, especially early on. In 2019, Trenton tore his MCL coming out of college, and he had to work to trust his own body again. This injury led to his split from the Miami Dolphins, but there was a silver lining – he was able to spend time rethinking his approach to football both physically and mentally.
“Over the past few years I’ve learned to compartmentalize losses and learn the lessons that come with them,” he says.
In terms of highlights, Trenton has a few very special moments in mind, one being his Rose Bowl win and making it all the way to the Super Bowl. However, even with huge successes like these under his belt, he’ll still tell you that every day holds its fair share of little wins here and there.
Looking forward, Trenton is confident that he can follow his love for football as far as it can take him, and when the time comes to pursue a different passion, he has a plan for that too.
“After football I’d love to get involved in something with kids in sports, or maybe with animal conservation,” he says. “I just want to continue doing something I’m passionate about while also being a part of something that’s bigger than just me.”
That’s what football is for him – something he’s passionate about and something that gives him the opportunity to improve himself and leave a positive effect on every person he crosses paths with.
To this day, Trenton is a kid at heart, and through all of the wins and losses he brings home, he works hard to let his light shine on everything he does and everyone he meets.
