Helping Make Our Community a Healthier One

by Stephanie Struyck Elgin
The Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Foundation is pleased to welcome Andrei Nikitin as their new Director of Development. Bringing more than 12 years of broad fund development experience, Andrei will be working closely with the Foundation President Diana Vose as well as the Board of Directors on growing philanthropic support of the hospital. “I am thrilled to join the Henry Mayo team,” states Andrei. “Henry Mayo is a growing hospital providing advanced medical care to the residents of the vibrant, growing Santa Clarita Valley community. The philanthropic support of the hospital by dedicated members of this community in the recent years has been nothing short of extraordinary. I consider philanthropy absolutely essential for continued strategic growth of the hospital, and I am excited to be a part of this growth.” Nikitin brings a wealth of knowledge to the Foundation. He holds a master’s degree in Education, English and German from Ryazan State University. He also has a master’s degree in Communication from Wheaton College, and a Certificate in Fund Raising Management from Indiana University and is currently completing his Master of Business Administration degree at La Sierra University. Prior to joining Henry Mayo, Andrei served for over five years as the major gifts officer at Glendale Adventist Medical Center. There, he successfully raised major gifts for a $10-million capital campaign for a new acute care tower, as well as for equipment (a new multislice CT scanner, Giraffe OmniBeds), and for hospital renovations. He secured the largest bequest gift (valued at $4.8 million) Glendale Adventist has ever received. In addition, Andrei was an active community leader and was a member and president of the Rotary Club of Glendale. Prior to that, he ran development programs for Parents Television Council in Los Angeles and Adventist Media Center in Simi Valley. Andrei is new to the Santa Clarita Valley, and looks forward to helping better our community for those who reside here. On a personal note, Andrei loves the outdoors and enjoys hiking, biking, tennis and even began playing golf recently. “I’m not any good, however I have a life of improvement ahead of me,” states Andrei. In the “few remaining unoccupied hours”, Andrei enjoys translating Edna St. Vincent Millay’s sonnets into Russian. “It’s a rather idiosyncratic hobby. Millay’s sonnets, I think, are still unsurpassed in their beauty, elegance and emotional force. When I translate all 52 sonnets of her 1931 collection, Fatal Interview, I will know that my life’s work is done,” states a smiling Andrei. We welcome Andrei Nikitin and look forward to the many wonderful contributions he will bring to the Foundation and our community!
