Here’s the Story of the … Youngest One with Curls
The Santa Clarita Valley is home to many people in the fame industry who have chosen to live away from the hustle and bustle of their work lives and locations. Susan Olsen, also fondly remembered as Cindy Brady from The Brady Bunch, has lived in Valencia for over two decades now. She chose to settle in this city because it was a quiet and clean alternative to LA life, and it was the perfect location to raise her son, who is now 21 years old and in a band called ‘Seizure’.
Some of Susan’s favorite hotspots in Santa Clarita are places with live music, because it reminds her of venues that she would go to with friends, years ago. Susan loves rock n’ roll and acting was never her dream job: “I wanted to be a rockstar.” She laughs because her son is now living her dream, and also getting a taste of the celebrity life that she grew up in.
Growing up as the youngest Brady in the Bunch was not easy for Susan; she was teased as Cindy Brady on many episodes, and in real life as herself at public school. She remembers being grateful that new episodes aired on Fridays, because she would hope that her classmates would forget about anything embarrassing by the time Monday rolled around. All of the Brady children attended public school while filming the show, which is rare with child actors and actresses of today.
It has been over 40 years since the TV show about America’s favorite family aired its final episode, and Susan is to this day recognized as the youngest Brady when she is out and about. It doesn’t bother her, though, because she appreciates being “a happy part of childhood memories.” She and her Brady brothers and sisters still stay in touch and are close; they’ve had each other’s backs since being cast as siblings. Growing up on TV is an uncommon and specific situation, but growing up with a TV family to support you through it makes it that much better.
Nowadays, Susan does occasional radio talk shows and Fine art, anything that gets the creative juices flowing. She is also an acting teacher at Santa Clarita’s Vibe Performing Arts on Lyons Ave, hoping to inspire imagination in younger generations with the skills she learned in her days as a child actress. This experience as a teacher has led to Susan appreciating the time on The Brady Bunch more, because the family dynamic of the show is not often seen on television today. Luckily, The Brady Bunch still holds value and provides entertainment for any generation that watches it.
