Kind, caring and extremely generous is the best way I can describe the wonderful people I met at the American Cancer Society’s Volunteer Recognition Dinner held at Robinson Ranch on September 30.  The night honored volunteers, family and friends who have shown their support for The American Cancer Society and more specifically the Santa Clarita Chapter.

In her opening speech, incoming President Nancy Coulter said, “As our theme indicates… It’s Not Just Magic – if it were only that easy!  It’s hard work, dedication, generosity of time/energy and spirit.  It’s the researchers, staff, volunteers and many other components.  But, working together, we will realize our goal.”
American Cancer Society SCV Unit President Candy Spahr also gave a heartwarming update of the years events along with introducing Los Angeles Region Vice President Jane Lastusky who proudly announced that local fundraising saw a $300,000 increase from last year in the L.A. region though the recent tough economy.  Her wonderful words only solidified that even in the harshest of times the Santa Clarita Valley supports those in need.
“Our annual volunteer recognition event is a night we all look forward to. Whether we’ve worked on Gala, Relay for Life, Daffodil Days, or any other ACS cause, we are all united in the goal of fighting and preventing cancer, supporting those affected by the disease, and, like the ACS mission says, ‘creating more birthdays.’ Celebrating those heartfelt efforts is a delightful and meaningful reason to party!” said Diana Sevanian, volunteer, American Cancer Society SCV Unit.
