Local Students to Showcase Their Artistic Talents at the Youth Arts Showcase
Art provides children an outlet through which they can express who they are and explore creativity. Creating art helps develop imagination and innovative thinking. Art is such an important part of a child’s learning experience that every March, cities across the United States proclaim the month as Youth Art Month, dedicating an entire month to the promotion of art and art education. To celebrate locally, the City of Santa Clarita will once again be hosting the Youth Arts Showcase in collaboration with all five local school districts. The free event will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2019, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at The Centre, located at 20880 Centre Pointe Parkway.
Grab your family and friends and stop by the Youth Arts Showcase to show your support for art created by youth in our community. The Centre facility will be transformed into a giant art hub with sections dedicated to celebrating different types of artistic talents, including live music and dance performances, galleries showcasing visual art and opportunities to participate in interactive art experiences. Each school district will also be highlighting their visual and performing arts campus programs. There is plenty to do at this event so we encourage you to arrive at 11:00 a.m. to allow for plenty of time to enjoy.
Art aficionados will get inspired by local student art at the Santa Clarita Youth Art Gallery. This gallery will showcase artwork from 20 selected students from four age groups in the categories of art and photography. As part of the gallery viewing experience, you can vote on your favorite art piece to win the people’s choice category.
The Interactive Youth Art Area gives young artists a chance to get their face painted, make shadow puppets and receive free guided drawing lessons.
For those looking to be immersed in colors, the Street Painting and Interactive Area, located in the building’s adjacent area, offers the opportunity for attendees to create their own art and watch students in street painting teams use pastels to transform asphalt into vibrant masterpieces of art.
Walk over to the Performing Arts Stage to treat your senses to the sights and sounds of great performances. As in years prior, the stage will shine bright with performances by local youth choruses and dance teams.
The arts also include the art of making films! Stop by the Audio-Visual Room to view short films and discover the local film-making talents that are brewing in Santa Clarita.
If you get hungry after exploring the arts, food trucks will be available offering an assortment of eating options.
Art brings the best out of people, so bring your family to the Youth Arts Showcase and enjoy a day of art activities in Santa Clarita. To learn more, please visit www.SantaClaritaArts.com.
