Modernist Revival Along the Green
by Joshua Price
Welcome to this lovely home located in Valencia…the perfect town for a family to settle down and raise their growing boys; a wonderful house for these East Coast transplants. Situated ideally off of the Valencia Country Club Golf Course, father can walk to the green and enjoy his love of the drive, mother can pursue her love of entertaining, or the teenagers can head off with friends to do what they love…walk to the mall without ever having to cross the street! “Our house is a work in progress,” states the homeowners. “Our interior designer, Stephanie Laney of Clear Images, has been helping us transform from the typical Tuscan style Santa Clarita home to the more California modern look. Once she is done, it will be great. Every accessory and piece of furniture is something Stephanie ordered, from the curtains, the paint color of the house, to the pattern and material of the travertine floors.” The two-car garage has faux wood doors, lending a natural look to the home, echoed along the umber shutters. Earth toned stucco contrasts nicely with the ceramic tile roof, all of which is complemented by the stamped concrete of the walk- and driveways and the Mexican paver accents. Ivy hangs delicately from the entrance, beckoning you inside the wrought iron gate. Within the portico, a single fountain tinkles delicately, demurely speckled by surrounding impatiens and potted plants, lilies, and a live screen from neighbors from hedges. A natural door with iron elements, arched and graceful, welcomes you to the inside of the home. The open floor plan adds a spacious element to the heart of the home, as arches abound throughout. White travertine adorns the floor in a wonderfully random Versailles pattern. The living room opens to the formal dining; cream-colored fabrics encompass whoever is lucky enough to sit on the couches or in the chairs. Decorative shelving support many free-form statuettes and knick-knacks within their polished steel frame, an offset to the formal dine from Lexington furniture. The windows are ensconced in multi-colored damask fabric, though in muted tones. Trellis-work chair backings add a 1950s inspired air, a panache further punctuated by the dark wood contrast. Offset is a separate “cigar lounge” for dad, complete with cream and hard wood chairs, a gold filigree mirror, and a large palm as a natural element. In the media room, stunning tiger stripes draw the eye from the rug to the couch; hand nailed trim punches through the cream, and is further punctuated by the dark accent pillows. White crown molding breaks up the naturally hued walls and the textured tweed look of the ceiling, which all pairs nicely with the deep mahogany of the computer hutch and television stand. Outside of the media room, a hallway to the family room and kitchen (a second great room) is hung with various family photographs and montages, while an heirloom hutch from great grandmother keeps her close in hearts and thoughts. Walk through this treasure trove of memories and enter the true heart of the house. 1950s inspired smoking chairs again offer a punch of cream amidst the wooden paneling, while the cushion is upholstered in luxurious zebra striping. A large cocktail table offers ample space to set your drink while chatting with guests, while the kitchen table allows further seating, as do the stools setting before the bar of the kitchen. Orchids abound in pots of all sizes, naturalizing the space, while gold mirrors add an art deco appeal. In the kitchen, stainless appliances add a medium balance between the white cabinets and the dark of the granite countertops. A large pot rack hangs over the island, allowing easy access when preparing meals. The over-range hood is stuccoed to match the walls, adding a lovely transition between all elements of this room. Exit through the large bay doors and catch a breathtaking view. Setting practically on top of the golf course, guests and residents alike can watch people practicing their slices and swings. Stamped concrete is punctuated by various greenery and palms, adding an attractive and natural feel to everything. Ample seating is available at the various furniture sets outside. Either way, one thing is for sure…whether with loved ones or not, you will be enjoying exactly what you love!
