Your New MAIN Art Space
In January, the City Council approved a plan to turn the arts venue formerly known as the Repertory East Playhouse into a multi-arts center in the heart of the Newhall Arts and Entertainment District. Under the management of the City, The MAIN, an acronym for Municipal Arts In Newhall, will be the home for music, comedy, film, theatre, visual art, meetings, classes and workshops, and will serve as a welcome center for visitors to Old Town Newhall.
The MAIN will host two comedy troops, with Comedy Mash-Up presenting their mix of improv and stand-up comedy on the first Friday of the month The Society Improv Company presenting long and short form improv on the third Friday. SCVTV presents the OutWest Concert Series which offers live musical performances every other month on the fourth Friday of the month. The City is working to expand the roster of performers and types of entertainment offered at The MAIN.
Thursdays the venue will host events as part of the free Thursdays@Newhall series, with the first Thursday continuing the 10 by 10 variety nights, the second Thursday hosting the Note by Note singer/songwriter nights, the third Thursday hosting art receptions and other visual art events in conjunction with the SENSES events that take place outside the venue, and the fourth Thursday hosting the ARTree Artist Speaker Series, which was previously hosted at the Old Town Newhall Library.
The lobby of The MAIN will host an ongoing visual art exhibit showcasing a different artist each month. An individual artist will be showcased each month, and the exhibit will be available for viewing during all events as well as Tuesday through Friday from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. Participating artists will be given the opportunity to host a reception on the third Thursday of the month when their art is showcased. Residents interested in showcasing their art at The MAIN are encouraged to submit their work on The MAIN website.
The MAIN is available for rentals and can accommodate a variety of events, from corporate meetings to theatre productions. The MAIN is fully equipped with an 81 seat theatre, lobby, gallery space, reception area, large dressing room, in house sound and a box office.
If individuals or groups are interested in showcasing their talent or renting this exciting new venue, please go to www.atthemain.org or email aeo@santa-clarita.com or call 661-250-3787 to get more information.
