Positive Changes and Meaningful Connections with Kevin MacDonald

 The SCV Senior Center on Market Street in Newhall first opened their doors to the community as a non-profit organization in 1976. They are currently in the works of moving to a new location at Golden Valley Road and Newhall Ranch Road, set to complete construction in February 2019 under the direction of Executive Director Kevin MacDonald. In his two years working for the senior center, Kevin has made positive changes and meaningful connections with the staff, volunteers, and members, bringing a strong sense of community as soon as you walk through the front doors.
Kevin has been working with nonprofits for his entire professional career. He first attended The University of Dayton in Ohio for an undergraduate degree, then attended The University of California, Berkeley for his Masters in Business Administration with a concentration in Nonprofit Management. Kevin was with The Arc, an organization for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, before he joined us in Santa Clarita with caring and supportive guidance for our Senior Center.
In his free time, Kevin enjoys outdoor activities such as hiking and camping with his two sons. When asked about his favorite SCV activity (besides hiking), Kevin said he likes trying out different restaurants around the valley and attending the many festivals that occur throughout the town.
SCV Senior Center volunteers and members alike spoke very highly of Kevin when asked about his impact on the community. Tommie Ward, a volunteer ambassador at the Senior Center and a daily attendee, refers to Kevin as ‘Godfather,’ because he “checks on everyone and has created a family relationship. It’s the best place to be because of Kevin.”
Kerry Guardino, the Director of the Adult Day Program at the SCV Senior Center, praises Kevin for his listening and understanding skills: “He’s 100 percent supportive… he gets it.”
Kevin’s favorite and most fulfilling part of his job is interacting and working with the staff and the seniors. He appreciates being surrounded with people who focus on giving back and running a nonprofit in the right way; in his words, the people around him are the ones “leading the charge to the new center.”
Kevin is in the early stages of his time with the SCV Senior Center, and has already proven to be a perfect fit to aid in the expansion of one of our city’s best offerings. There is a family atmosphere in the halls of the SCV Senior Center on Market Street, and despite an age difference, the members view Kevin in a loving, parental role for the growing organization.
