Real Housewives of Santa Clarita? No, But Reality TV Has Filmed Here
Reality television is America’s favorite pastime, and for good reason! Where else can you find the excitement of epic challenges, delicious cooking shows and the pinnacle of quality television: The Real Housewives series? With the City of Santa Clarita being no stranger to the filmmaking industry, it comes as no surprise that numerous successful reality television shows have been filmed locally including Fear Factor, the Amazing Race and Bar Rescue to name a few. Let’s take a closer look at the productions and shows that have chosen Santa Clarita as a filming destination for some of our favorite shows.
The summer season is here, and it’s time to get moving – better yet, it’s time to Wipeout! Filmed on a movie ranch in Santa Clarita beginning in 2008, this wild reality competition showcases contestants navigating an extreme obstacle course designed to crush even the most capable of competitors, with obstacles including the iconic big red balls, sucker punch and the motivator – a personal favorite of ours. Fast forward to 2021, and the series has evolved into an even more fantastic production hosted by Nicole Byer and the legendary John Cena. We look forward to seeing all the new whacky shenanigans and moments that come out of this new series reboot.
Speaking of obstacle courses, Holey Moley is currently on its fourth season, showcasing self-proclaimed mini-golfers as they traverse a unique course with never-before-seen challenges. Beginning in 2019, this show has been described as “literally a mini-golf competition,” evolving into an elaborate cornucopia of themed courses and even crazier obstacles that put contestants through unconventional physical challenges. But the fun doesn’t stop there – winners of Holey Moley are presented with the “coveted plaid jacket,” a jacket that puts even the most respectable Masters Green Jacket to shame. Be on the lookout for the Muppets as they guest host the latest season.
All this moving and activity can sure build up an appetite. That’s why we’re excited to tell you about the new Disney+ series Foodtastic, a magical spin on the reality cooking show where the magic of Disney storytelling meets the wonders of food art. It’s like if edible arrangements were Disney-themed. The show began streaming in November 2021, and contestants have since brought their best creations to the table, including a Cars-themed arrangement made out of delicious fruits and vegetables, in addition to many more fun-filled creations.
Whether you’ve watched a reality show or blockbuster movie, many productions that are currently streaming and being released have been filmed right here in the City of Santa Clarita. The City’s Film Office started in 2002 and has been integral in helping guide productions through the film permitting process. Filming is a great benefit to the community, with over 6,000 Santa Clarita residents currently working in the media and entertainment industry.
