Rebuilding the Senior Center: An Investment for the Future
by Manjot Singh Less than a month ago, a man is reported to have broken into the Santa Clarita Senior Center, stolen keys of two of the nine Home Delivery Meal delivery trucks, and rammed down the security fence with one truck so he could drive off with the second, resulting in $63,000 worth of damage. The Senior Center was left to fend for themselves until the City of Santa Clarita decided to step in and help the center financially. Mayor Laurene West, Councilmember Bob Keller, and City Manager Ken Pulskamp were all present from the City to present a check of $187,500 to the Senior Center located in downtown Newhall on Market Street. “To have the city make a decision to maintain their level of funding and actually add to that means so much to us. We see the city’s role as a partner and they treat us like a partner,” notes SCV Committee on Aging President, Richard Patterson. SCV Senior Center Foundation Board President, Patti Rasmussen adds to that, stating “The city has recognized the need with the growing population here in the Senior Center.” For more information about the Senior Center, visit www.scvsc.org/ |
