Santa Clarita River Lake – John Pramik
You’ll be hard pressed to find someone as versatile and multitalented as John Pramik – he’s equal parts artistic, sharp, and dedicated. As a pianist and composer, John first made a name for himself as a keyboardist in films like The Truman Show and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, but that was just the beginning for him.
When he moved out to Santa Clarita in 1994, he realized that there was much more in store for his future than just exploring his musical side; he was destined to find a way to improve the lives of not just himself and his family, but the lives of those in the community surrounding him.
In addition to running Pramik Entertainment, a company that designs, produces, and broadcasts events worldwide for UCLA and corporations, John is now known as the founder of Santa Clarita River Lake, a project borne of his desire to innovate and improve the way our city uses water. Having had an engineer for a father, John took a hard look at the different factors that impacted the state of SCV and its water supply; when he realized that there was an opportunity for him to improve the situation, the wheels started turning – literally.
“I asked myself, ‘could Santa Clarita be the first city in southern California to use water in an innovative way and become a sustainable city?’” John says.
The answer is yes – after four years of crazy ideas, meeting with community leaders, and all kinds of organizations throughout the valley, John has gotten to where he is today: heading a project as exciting and promising as Santa Clarita River Lake.
The project centers around the main idea of encouraging water consciousness here in Santa Clarita. As explained in a video on the Santa Clarita River Lake website, much of the rain we get here eventually drains right into the ocean, but for John and his team, there’s a better way to get more out of our water: he plans to harvest it, and put it to better use through water recycling and reusage right here in our community. With time, patience, and a lot of careful planning, Santa Clarita River Lake has the potential to bring about massive change for the better when it comes to water preservation and usage here in SCV.
“We can use rain to create a lake in our river with a beautiful ecosystem for butterflies, bees, and other wildlife out here,” John says. “This will be a lightning bolt for our city.”
As of today, the plan is already in motion; John has set up meetings with prominent community leaders and organizations to help push the project forward and get to work utilizing the power of clean water. In the meantime, he’s urging residents to think more about how they use water – taking shorter showers, watering plants at night, and taking similar steps all play into the main goal: keeping our city (and our planet) well-supplied with clean water when we need it, and having it stored away when we don’t.
You can help boost the Santa Clarita River Lake by spreading the word about the project and being more mindful of your own household water usage. More information and details are available on the website, http://www.santaclaritariverlake.com, and on their various social media outlets under SC River Lake. “Things have the tendency to stay the same unless we shake them up – everything we have and use today was someone’s dream, someone’s idea,” he says. “I think this is a risk worth taking – I say it’s possible.”
