Shop Local, Celebrate Local: Supporting Santa Clarita This Holiday Season
As the weather cools, lights begin to brighten our neighborhoods and calendars fill with gatherings, the holiday season gives us plenty of reasons to spend time with family and friends. It is also a great time to enjoy the restaurants, shops and small businesses that make Santa Clarita feel like home.
Shopping local is one of the easiest ways we can support our community. Behind every storefront are business owners, employees and families who have invested their time and energy here. When we choose to shop, dine or spend an afternoon close to home, we are helping those businesses succeed while supporting local jobs and keeping our economy strong.
This year, that support carries special meaning in Old Town Newhall.
The recent fire along Main Street caused significant damage and impacted businesses, employees and places that many residents have enjoyed for years. In the days that followed, we saw businesses supporting one another, residents looking for ways to help and our community rallying around Old Town Newhall.
That support can continue throughout the holiday season.
Main Street remains home to a great mix of local restaurants, shops and experiences. Pick up a gift from a local retailer, meet friends for coffee or lunch, fit in a workout or a game of pool or make dinner part of an evening in Old Town Newhall. Spending time there is a simple way to support the businesses that are open and continue showing up for the community every day.
There will soon be another reason to shop and dine in Old Town Newhall. The City is expanding its Open Rewards program to the area, giving residents more opportunities to support participating local businesses while earning cash-back rewards on eligible purchases.
The idea is simple: shop local, earn rewards and use those rewards toward future purchases. It is a great incentive to try a restaurant you have been meaning to visit, stop into a shop you have passed by before or return to a longtime favorite. During a season when many of us are already shopping for gifts, meeting for meals and making plans with loved ones, Open Rewards gives us another reason to keep those purchases close to home.
Of course, shopping local extends well beyond Old Town Newhall. Across Santa Clarita, family-owned restaurants, neighborhood shops, service businesses and local entrepreneurs help make our City a place where people want to live, work and spend time.
We are proud of the strong relationship we have built with our business community. We want entrepreneurs and business owners to know that Santa Clarita is a place that welcomes their ideas and supports their success. When local businesses grow, they create jobs, bring new choices to our community and contribute to the quality of life our residents enjoy.
Local businesses also have a long history of giving back. They sponsor youth sports, support schools and nonprofits, participate in community events and step up when their neighbors need help. That connection is part of what makes supporting them so important.
Shopping local does not require a major change in your routine. It can be choosing a neighborhood restaurant for dinner, picking up a gift from a local shop or spending a Saturday exploring businesses you have not visited before.
As we enjoy the holiday season together, we encourage everyone to think local first. Every purchase is an opportunity to support a neighbor, strengthen a business and invest in the community we all call home.
