Stars Are Not Just in the Sky – Nicole Sherman

 She’s confident, driven and has known what she wanted since toddler years.
Meet Nicole Moorea Sherman, or Nicci as her friends know her.
“When I was 4 years-old, I went to my mom and told her I wanted to be an actress.  She smiled and said, ‘you’re funny’, then told me to go play with my toys,” Nicole shared.
It wasn’t long before young Nicci, was looking for the next step.   At eight years old, she started participating in plays in her hometown of Texas.  Learning fast, Nicole landed a part in the 2014 short thriller film “One”. Nicole played the character “Ginny”, a young girl, after learning of brutal murders, she must force herself to sleep, while evil lurks in the dark.
“It was a very different kind of part to work on.  What I really enjoyed was becoming friends with the people who I worked with, even if they were trying to kill me,” chuckled Nicole.
Tackling more television series and commercials, in 2015, Nicole won the parts of “Alice” a self-titled short as well as “Scarlett” in the drama “Clouds”; then in 2016 she worked on Baby Steps. With every opportunity she was presented, Sherman’s family saw her passion grow. As the recurring flights from Texas to Los Angeles increased, though Nicole was happy, at times she found herself homesick.
“My family, and their unconditional love is what got me through those tough times.  I have a wonderful mentor, casting director Joey Paul Jensen and she always has encouraged me to be honest and open with my feelings.  Just about a year ago we moved to pursue my dreams and now call California home,” said Nicole.
Taking guidance from her fellow actors, she began molding her professional presence in the industry. Nicole’s next role would lead her to the world of animation when she won the reoccurring role of Emma on a Sprout Network series named “Little People®”.  The show brings imaginative adventures with each 11-minute episode.  Nicole found herself working on more than 10 episodes of the series, truly enjoying the dynamics and challenges voice acting can bring.
“A lot of people think it’s all about the voice, but you also have to really put yourself into the character, like any other role,” said Nicole.  You have to think for yourself, without relying on other characters and use your own bag of tricks.  It has pushed me to think deeper about the characters I play.”
In 2015 Nicole worked on an A&E show called “My Haunted House”, where she wore sci-fi special effects makeup and “totally freaked her mom out”.  Pulling from her earlier work in the short thriller “One”, Nicole played the ghost of a little girl in a tattered nightgown who haunts a dimly light hallway.  The show shares shocking eyewitness accounts of terrified people whose dream homes have become nightmares and are brought to life in vivid, blood-curdling style.
“I have been very lucky to work on lots of different roles.  Comedy and drama very different, just like you can imagine and animated shows are a whole other kind of character to play.  I can’t really compare them because they are all so different and I couldn’t choose a favorite either.  I really just love working,” said Nicole.  “I am also a singer. My singing coach Adriana is teaching me how to use my voice in different ways.  I also think it is adding to my ability as a voice actor.”
With a few more projects in the works, two more videos and her 2017 Young Artist Award nomination for Best Performance in a voice-over role, you can be sure this won’t be the last time you read about Nicole Moorea Sherman in the pages of élite Magazine.
