Italy.  It’s one of the most romantic countries in the world.  From the beautiful seaside villages to gorgeous mountaintop views, stunning architecture and lovely canals, everything about Italy breathes romance, and its location has served as the backdrop for many novels throughout history.

Newhall resident Antonio Dell’Orco was born in Trani, a seaport in southern Italy in 1936. In 1945, he and his family moved to Milan where he was raised.

That’s Amore 1  “I had four brothers and one sister,” states Antonio.  “We had a big family and ever since a young age, I had to work to support the family.”
Antonio quickly got into the business of tailoring after making a top coat he needed for the cold weather.  “I was really good at it,” states Antonio.   “I remember my mother always telling me, ‘Very good, my son.’”
Having been raised in one of the prominent Italian cities known for their fashion couture, Antonio became very successful in the industry, and honed his craft before coming to the United States.
In 1964, Antonio’s family migrated to America.  “I spent the first nine months in Washington D.C.” states Antonio, “but I didn’t like the weather, so I moved to California.”  He and his wife Angela made their home in southern California and have been married for 58 years.  Together, they have one son, Americo, and daughter, Christina.  They also have an adorable four year old granddaughter, Angelina, who they enjoy seeing every week.  For nearly a half a century, Antonio continues to work in the business of tailoring.  “I have done a lot of work for the studio and motion pictures,” states Antonio.  Some of his clients included legendary actor, John Wayne, actor and stand up comedian Ray Romano and Bob Newhart.
Along with his love for tailoring, Antonio is also a writer.  “Now that I’m semi-retired, I have been able to spend more time writing stories and publishing my books,” states Antonio.  His stories are written in Italian and later translated to English for publication.  The author’s first published book was titled Passion or Compassion, an intriguing love story that took place during the two World Wars.  “My father used to tell me stories of the first World War,” states Antonio.  “I remembered his stories well, and I used them as inspiration to write my book.  I wrote this beautiful story, which were based on true events in Italy.”
Antonio has since written two more books, The Portrait A Tale of Love and a children’s book titled The Wolf Lion and Whistle, which are available for purchase on Amazon.  Antonio plans to publish two more children’s books next year.
“I am a simple artisan who likes to write,” states Antonio.  “It is a passion of mine, and I want to share that with all of the world.”
