She has opened 36 La Quinta Inn & Suites and called Santa Clarita her home since 2006. She is the General Manager at La Quinta in Stevenson Ranch and the current Chairman of the Board at the SCV Chamber of Commerce.
Meet Sue Nevius.
Born and raised in Kansas, Sue came to work with La Quinta in 1990, relocating to Texas where she worked as a hotel manager and then moving to the Human Resources Department. It wasn’t until she met her husband Scott, who also worked for La Quinta, and was opening up a location in Freemont, when Sue decided to make the move to California in 2001. “I fell in love, and decided to tell everyone I was moving to California to be with him,” she says with a smile.
In 2006, Scott and Sue made the move to the Santa Clarita Valley after living in Orange County for a few years. “I didn’t know anyone here,” says Sue.
And that’s when she joined the Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce.
“I joined in October of 2006, and it wasn’t until the following January that Charlie Gill, past Chairman, asked me to be on the board.” And now, less than a decade later and she is taking on the role as Chairman of the Board.
Just a few months as Chairman, Sue continues her high hopes and positive outlook for the upcoming year.
“I am really excited about the Latino Chamber of Commerce coming on board and I think it will not only be good for both chambers to merge, but also the community.” Sue continues, “I am also looking forward to working with the younger leaders in the community, teaching and training, hoping to bring awareness about community issues through our Emerging Leaders program.”
Sue not only serves as Chairman, but she is also on the Board at Henry Mayo Newhall Health Foundation, and has been on the board since 2007. “I thoroughly enjoy being a part of the community and watching it grow.” Sue is also actively involved at Grace Baptist Community Church, where she ushers alongside her husband as well as volunteers on the funeral care team.
Compassionate about the city as well as those who reside, Sue looks forward to continuing to serve and anticipates a successful year.
