Vibing The Set Life – Scotty Vibe-Pieper Breaks into Acting

 When your dream is to play professional baseball and your fallback is a successful acting career, things are looking pretty good.  If you’re 12-year-old Scotty Vibe-Pieper, things are looking even better.
“Scotty only recently decided he wanted to act,” said his mother and local performing artist Andrea Vibe.  “I never wanted to push it, but I know that world really well.  Luckily, he was picked up immediately.”
Scotty’s first gig, a Wrangler commercial, was no small-time role.  Playing a football hero, the young sports fan had even more fun than he expected.
“We went out to the park, and they had these huge rain machines,” Scotty said, his voice quickening with excitement.  “We just did drills in the rain and played around.  The director was great.”
Following Scotty’s TV debut, he quickly booked another part, this time kicking things up a notch.  Stepping into some heavier acting, he played the lead role, an abused foster child, in Beneath the Leaves.  Exploring a whole range of emotions on screen, Scotty’s character seeks revenge on his foster parents, setting the whole house ablaze.
“We had to act sad the whole time, which was hard,” Scotty explained, “but I got to play alongside Patrick Swayze’s brother, Don Swayze.  He was really fun to work with.”
For Andrea, watching her son’s performance in this film was an extraordinary experience.
“It was pretty amazing, as a parent, to watch this guy abuse my child,” Andrea said.  “It was horrible and sad, and to see his tears was just extraordinary.”
Directors behind the film hope to bring awareness to the faults in our foster care system, shedding light on some of the horrible things kids experience when placed with a corrupt family, Andrea explained.
“It was honestly an incredible experience,” they said.
The scenes lightened up considerably for Scotty’s next project, but the stars also got a little bigger.  Standing among a lineup of 12 boys, Scotty was handpicked by director George Clooney for a role as a youth baseball player.  Clooney, along with Coen brothers Ethan and Joel, takes a writing credit in the film, as well.  Matt Damon, Julianne Moore and Josh Brolin star in this 1950s crime mystery set in the quiet town of Suburbicon, where the best and worst of humanity is hilariously reflected through the deeds of seemingly ordinary people.  When a home invasion turns deadly, a picture-perfect family turns to blackmail, revenge and betrayal.  Suburbicon is coming to theatres in 2017.
“George was so amazing with the kids,” Andrea said.  “At one point, he asked Scotty to grab his mitt, and the two played catch for a while.”
The whole set felt a sense of community on this project, and Scotty even walked away with some new friends.
“My favorite part about acting would probably have to be meeting new friends,” Scotty said.  “I met Frankie on set, and now we’re best friends.”
Beyond the world of acting, Scotty continues to rack up his accomplishments.  He holds straights As in school, performs with a band in his spare time and plays a whole lot of baseball.  As for his career aspirations, they are as varied as his strengths.
“My No. 1 priority is baseball,” Scotty said thoughtfully.  “I can fall back on music or acting – whichever one works out.”
