What Was Your WIN Today?

In this crazy world of unpredictability, with life’s constant ups and downs, it’s easy to feel out of control, and it’s completely normal to feel helpless and overwhelmed.
Maybe your kids are home sick from school or your car died on you again or there’s not enough money at the end of the month or you haven’t had a good night’s sleep in who knows how long – sleep?  Now there’s a concept!  With all our daily worries and challenges, sometimes it feels like we just can’t catch a break – like we just can’t win.
When you’re feeling out of control, take a moment to focus on your win for the day.  It could be the couple of seconds you took for yourself just to breathe or the fact that you did not eat the whole box of Girl Scout cookies – even though you really wanted to!  One of the most powerful “wins” I find for myself and our clients is making time for a workout.
A workout is so much more than something you “have” to do: a chance to do something good for yourself; a deliberate choice to make yourself a priority for one hour of your day; an opportunity for a huge win!
At the end of a workout, you feel that jolt of pride – “Yes, I just killed that!” – as you are glowing with sweat and ready to tackle whatever life has for you.  Your life can be chaos, leaving you feeling defeated, until you workout.  Taking that time to focus on you brings you back to center, giving you a feeling of control.  As my good friend Valerie Waters, celebrity trainer to busy mom and actress Jennifer Garner, says: “You’re only one workout away from a good mood.”
Maybe checking off your workout is not part of your current day-to-day routine.  What?!  It should be!  How about for your win today, carefully consider the benefits of working out, beyond the usual reasons.
• For the sense of pride in your own accomplishment.  There’s no better feeling!
• To be present in the moment and focused on your work out.  During a workout, you’re forced to leave the chaos behind and zone in on yourself, and it is so powerful.
• To boost your mood.  Exercise is one of the number most effective to decrease depression.  Take advantage of it!
• To find the strength to be able to tackle anything life throws at you.
• Conquering new exercises in the gym gives you the confidence to take on more outside the gym.
If you don’t start to take care of you, you can’t continue to take care of everyone else!  They deserve your best: the best mom, wife, caretaker, business owner you can be.  So make time to take care of yourself and celebrate your wins!
