What’s New & Exciting SCVEDC Highlights
Did you know that the Santa Clarita Valley (SCV) is home to a vibrant and growing business community? In 2016, about 70 percent of job gains in the SCV were in high-paying sectors! Our mission at the Santa Clarita Valley Economic Development Corporation (SCVEDC) is to bring high-quality jobs to the SCV. We do this by attracting companies from outside the valley who are seeking to relocate to a business-friendly location, and to support to companies already here with business assistance visits that provide valuable information from workforce development to how to lower the cost of doing business with incentives and tax credits.
There are many exciting things happening in the world of economic development right here in Santa Clarita. Here are just a few recent highlights:
LA Metro Commuting Incentive – Easing
the Commuter Burden from AV to SCV
Conservative estimates suggest that upwards of 8,000 people commute from the Antelope Valley (AV) to the Santa Clarita Valley each day, whether for work or to attend College of the Canyons. However, there is no direct bus line that services these individuals to their workplace.
Through the LA Metro Commuting Incentive Program, discounted vanpools are being arranged for companies with employees who commute to Santa Clarita from the AV. Any SCV employers with employees who commute from the Antelope Valley are encouraged to contact Rideshare by Enterprise to explore the benefits of vanpooling for your company.
California Competes Incentive Awarded to SCV Company
Did you know there are several incentive programs and tax credits that local companies can take advantage of? Recently, Regent Aerospace Corporation was awarded the California Competes Tax Credit by the California Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development (GO-Biz). The $200,000 income tax credit was granted because of Regent’s continued commitment to grow and invest in its California-based operations. The company has committed to adding a net increase of 20 employees and $10,500,000 in incremental wages and investments over the next five years.
California Competes is a competitive CA state income tax credit that was introduced following termination of the Enterprise Zone program, with an award budget in fiscal year 2016-2017 of $243 million. 25 percent is reserved for small business (less than $2 million in gross receipts). Contact SCVEDC’s business assistance team for more information about incentives that can help your SCV company grow.
Location, Location, Location!
fDi Magazine recently chose Santa Clarita as one of the Top 10 Small American Cities of the Future for foreign investment. We moved here, so we already knew Santa Clarita was a great choice for a hometown! But increasingly, Santa Clarita is gaining notoriety as a great location for business. Did you know that earlier this year we were named Los Angeles County’s most business-friendly city? Santa Clarita is well positioned for future growth and is attractive to companies due to its economic stability and business-friendly community. fDi Magazine agrees – Santa Clarita is a good place for foreign investors seeking long-term security and growth.
New Resource for Internships (Get a Job, Kid!)
Do you have a son or daughter returning home from college for the summer who is looking for a job? Look no further!
SCVEDC has created an internship job board to match qualified students with local companies wanting to hire students for paid internships.
And if you are a business, we encourage any Santa Clarita employer who is offering either a summer or year-round student internship to post on our site. Please contact us with any questions or visit www.SCVInternships.com to post your paid internship opportunity.
The Santa Clarita Valley Economic Development Corporation is a unique private / public partnership representing the united effort of regional industry and government leaders.
