Tim Patterson and Jill Jones’ custom estate in Hasley Canyon is a breathtaking tribute to their international travel and fondness for eclectic and ornate old world style. Tim and Jill designed and custom built the home over 20 years ago. Inspired by stately hotels in Europe, Tim and Jill designed a home “with soaring spaces and cozy places.” They also accomplished the style without the use of a decorator, choosing instead to adorn the home with furniture and artwork discovered on their travels. The two-acre estate features 4,200 square feet, three bedrooms, three baths, two offices, a design studio, three fireplaces and a four-car garage. Tim owns a film production company, which focuses primarily on commercials and promotional films. Jill, also in the entertainment industry, owns a firm which develops creative and marketing strategies for the studios and consumer products companies. They share the home with two Bengal cats named Tango and Taz. The home has been featured in commercials and the television series, The Riches starring Eddie Izzard and Minnie Driver. The kitchen is reminiscent of the Tuscan countryside with cheery yellow and green tones. The eat-in dining area overlooks gorgeous rose and geranium gardens as well as the rolling hills of Hasley Canyon. A comfortable family room — echoing burgundy, greens and tans as does much of the house – connects to Jill’s artist’s studio. Two years ago, the artist’s studio was an outdoor patio. The space was re-purposed to accommodate Jill’s talent for oil painting, which she tries to practice on Fridays. Both Jill and Tim have private office space in the home. Hers is a feminine space with a window seat and couch overflowing with needlepoint pillows, surrounded by built-in bookshelves. Tim’s work space is filled with momentos from his career and travels as well as a handcrafted model of a historic English sailing ship.. His office also has a world map with pins indicating places they have traveled. When asked what constitutes a location worthy of a pin, they respond, “You must spend the night there to earn a pin…not just travel through!” The master suite is awash in burgundy and golds and has a very Asian influence. The hand-carved teak headboard, for example, was found on a dusty little road in the Chang Mai province of Thailand. Identified as “our favorite room in the house” is the adjacent retreat with a mix of antiques, comfortable seating, cozy fireplace and a touch of animal prints. The couple’s yard has a pool, spa and BBQ area with ample seating for spring and summer parties. On a path to the private gazebo, Tim and Jill have a small “spirit house.” The spirit house, found in Thailand, is a religious shrine intended to protect the home and occupants (most Thai homes erect the spirit house near the front door). The yard also includes an herb garden, which Jill utilizes frequently in her cooking. “It feels like a getaway destination,” says Jones. “We love the peace and tranquility. When friends come to visit, they feel they are in the country.” |
